We dropped our Toyota Sienna off for service Thursday night at the Toyota/ Volvo dealer and although I noticed the black saphire S60R sitting next tothe Sienna as I got out. I puprosely averted my attention knowing full well the dangers of acknowledging the poison. I was OK, filled out the drop off paperwork and was ready to get in my 337 GTI when the wife said 'hey I wouldn't mind replacing the Sienna with that black S60'. I didn't let on that it was an R and just pointed out that it was an 04 for $31000 and a little more than we need to spend, but if she wanted to look at it we could when we pick up the van. So we looked at it and drove it (boy did I drive it) and didn't buy it. It is an incredible car but I pointed out that she probably wouldn't give it the kind of thrash that it really deserves so why buy it. She reminded me that you don't have to drive at 10/10's all the time which is true. Trying to meet halfway and get the Mrs out of the mini van world I pointed us towards an 04 2.5T AWD which is a bit more reasonably priced, not to mention a very nice car also. No it's not an R, but it is very comfortable and a great compromise between our Sienna and the GTI. We asked for a trade in value on the van and since it's got 111200 miles on it the dealer wouldn't quote a price and went on about how they need to bring in some auctioneer types etc... They might as well have told us to sell it ourselves. The van is in excellent shape with a complete maintenance record. I'm sure this week we'll be getting some follow up which should be interesting. I suppose in the meantime maybe we will investigate selling the Toyota privately and see what happens. Does anyone have any advice regarding negotiating for used retail vehicles? They are asking $27875 for the car which KBB quotes at 27000 retail and 22000 trade. I figure the Sienna is worth about $8500. Maybe I'll offer them 18500 and my car, see what happens.<p>
