Hello. I am looking at a one owner 2009 Volvo S40 and would like to know what major issues I should be made aware of before I buy. I will look into the timing belt service and recalls. Any engine or transmission issues? Thanks in advance...
It depends on the engine and transmission, we need more info on the car.
Since 2010 (or even 2009, can't remember exactly) there's a bunch of S40's with Powershift automatic transmission instead of Aisin (which was replaced), and these new gearboxes aren't as good and reliable to my knowledge. On another note at 220k KMs you'd have to check to see whats going on with that transmission either way, because if it hasn't been taken care of or repaired until now, you may be in trouble.
That's just my opinion thought. Let us know the engine and gearbox model.
My mistake, it is a 2008 S40 2.4i (168HP) FWD 5 cyl with 5 speed Geartronic transmission. So this is good news that it is most likely the Aisin trans?
This will be my daughters car for college.
Recalls are Nav system (not applicable) and leaking power steering hose.
He says dealer maintained and synthetic oil used. Expanding due to growing family. Looks promising - I will see it Monday and if looks good get a pre-inspection at a mechanic.
