Hi folks! My wife and I own a Toyota (yeah us!) and a Jeep JGC (hoy!) and recently stopped at Stillman Volvo to look at V70's as a possible replacement to the JGC. Aside from having an excellent experience with the salesman (my wife even commented on it) we came away impressed with the V70 AND the dealership.
We decided to research a bit more (though we could have purchased a leftover '06 2.4 for $28,900) as i was not convinced the 2.4 was the way to go and would prefer the used warrenty over new (same deal with Toyota and Chrysler, not sure why their used warranties are so much better....).
We know we want '05 or '06 (really liked the updated dash/console) w/ the usual options (climate pkg, leather, etc) but i am having a HARD time finding 2.5T's to look at. It seems the ideal car would be a '05 2.5T w/ <20k miles and i THINK such a car could be had for around $26k, but where to find it?
Are dealers anxious enough to sell '06 2.5t's that they'd let a leftover go for $28k?
Is the 2.5T a solid car? Would the 2.4 be as good a choice for less bucks? I am most interested in reliability, mileage and solid handling.
Thanks!
Erik

Not a '05, but we have a '04 2.5T with 45K on the clock. No problems what-so-ever, very solid driving car, great mileage and we love her!

Do your scheduled maintenance and the car will give you many years of reliable ownership;you may get tired of the car before it starts fatiguing itself!
Thanks!
Erik

Erik,
Who did you work with?
The 2.5T will, in the long run, give you more enjoyable performance if you would like to have a quick wagon. Not that the V70 2.4 is a slow car but the 2.5T has an big advantage in the way the car accelerates plus passing, etc. Furthermore, resale-wise, the 2.5T may be slightly more reliable thus negating some of the extra $$ you may spend in getting that model vs. the 2.4. It all depends on the way you drive and also how you intend on using the vehicle.
If you are thinking about saving money, have you thought about doing an Overseas Delivery purchase through Stillman? They are experts at that!
Yannis

Re: Looking at '05 -'06 V70, 2.5T prices? (GrecianVolvo)

Don Hall was our salesman. Very professional and patient. No pressure at all.
Overseas delivery would be very neat but I wouldn't think we could get an '06 2.5t for $29k that way? We need to keep the price as close to $25k as possible (less is even better of course). Also, the used warranty is enough to sway us to used. I have no problem being the second owner of a car, especially if it was taken care of and has <20k on the clock.

The 2.5T is definitely the way to go... Reliability wise, I haven't seen any difference between the LPT and NA... I don't think you'll have a problem finding a used 2005 2.5T for 25k...

Grecian how are you related to Stillman Volvo? Don was definitely one of the best salespeople we have EVER dealt with.
dugums should i just watch the volvo site for certified used and call whatever dealer shows up with the right car? if possible i'd prefer to deal with Don at Stillman as I like having a reliable contact when it comes to service issues but the right car is the right car.

jacksdaddy,
He used to work there (as most of us old timers talked to him about Stillman all the time) before his recent move out to Arnold's land (sort of like the Beverly Hillbillies moving to Calif...but a Greek in his case)....LOL.

Certainly if you trust and like your salesperson, that's a big incentive for buying from him... Tell him what you're looking for.... He'll be able to keep an eye out better than you, and might actually actively search for one...

Don has been there for a couple of years; I, personally, hired and trained him. I am happy that you had a good experience with him; he will certainly take care of you afteryou buy a car, too. And Stillman's Service Dept. has been ranked #1 in the entire U.S. for three years in a row, going onto the fourth.
When I worked there, it was not unusual for people living in Elkton, MD and beyond to make the trip all the way there for service.
Yannis
