OK...The clear strip above the handle. Shoudnt some kind of dim lighting come out of here. I was recently in an 06 MB R500 and it had a very similar strip that had neat amber lighting coming from here. Anyone else have these that actually light up?

Tim

I've never noticed that strip in my car before - probably because it doesn't light up.

I wonder if its as simple as having your dealer program it to turn on? That would be a cool feature.

Thanks for posting. So far, the 08's light up. I may pull my door panel to see if mine is wired up or not.
Please take a look at yours and share if yours light up.
Tim

However, the strip is plastic and I can see two changes in the color of the plastic like there are two lights there. I did open the door and hit the approach light button on the remote and nothing came on. Maybe the lights activate only at night according to the light sensor, or the 07's simply don't have lights.

Volvo is notorious for having plugs in place waiting for a sensor, bulb etc.
I'll pull my panel and see when I have a few minutes.
Anyone with an 08 US model have these functioning?
Tim

Mine are there just like your photo. They do not light up. I tried everything to get them to light up.
I will try and check with the dealer to see if there installed and just not activated.
Wiring these would be more trouble than there worth.

I looked through the 08 manual to see if theres a reference to changing lamps in the door handles, and there wasn't. Hmm..
But I still see that stupid xenon high beam that I want but don't know how to get!! ARGH!!!!

Vivek9856:
Those door handle lamps must be LED's, the reflector seems to small for an incandescent type bulb.

I love white LEDs.
So yeah, I would have noticed that in my car before if it did that, and I didn't notice anything, so it looks like that lighting is a no go in the 07's for some unapparent reason.

Re: (njb8199)

I pulled my rear drivers side panel and it looks to be a fiber optic setup. The back of the clear plastic piece has a octagon looking port that's waiting for a fiber line to just plug I to it. I checked all wiring coming into the door and none of it is fiber. This seems to be a system that would have a centrally located box and 4 fiber lines that go to each door.
The door panels can be taken off in 5 mins max. Very simple.
I don't suppose anyone out there who has this functioning is willing to take a look and confirm my suspicions?
Maybe john at Boston can look into it.
Tim
