So I want to start my own lighting project for my fog lights. I'm going to go for a halo style light. In order to do what I'm planning I need a way of getting the outline of the outermost part of the fog light itself to be able to form/bend the acrylic rod that Im using for the light, around the shape of the fog light. Any ideas of how I could do this? Thanks

Yea thats what Im using clear acrylic round tube. But I'm having a hard time deciding how I'm going to bend the tubing in that oval shape my fog lights are. And there really isnt any household items that are oval and the smae size as the outer part of the fog light.

Trace out the shape you want for the halo onto a piece of plywood...then get some nails and nail them onto the trace. You can now bend the light tube around the nails for a decent approx. of the shape. I actually did this on my R fog light and honestly, once you bake that rod you can bend it pretty easily my hand. I actually made the oval shape of the R fog light by hand and it came out pretty good, even got the z dimension down 1st try!
Another thing..make sure when you are bending the rod that it does not twist. I assume you'll be cutting slits on the back edge for the light to refract thru? If the rod twists while bending, then the light will escape and you'll get a funky output

Re: (DGBibo)

Thanks for that link. The thing I'm doing differently tho is making them for my fogs, and the fog lights are oval, thats why I'm trying to figure out a way to get the shape traced somehow.
Oh and I'm wicked pumped because I went to home depot and found the acrylic pipe I wanted and I got two 24" pieces and when I brought them up to the counter the couldnt figure out a price for them, so they just said "have a nice day!" and gave them to me for FREE!
