Alright, I called the shop today, since it was supposed to be fixed( they were going to replace all the lifters since one either was not getting oil or it was collapsed). And they have not even started! Now they say they are going to try and replace the some oil seals in the oil pan that feed the lifters in an effort to fix it with out replacing the lifters. They also say that using 5w30 synthetic oil in the winter was not a good idea, even though i switched to 10w30 when the summer started. Now he is going to put dino oil back in it even though the oil has a couple hundred miles on it. The owner also said he talked to various volvo guys and Volvo about this and they said try that first.........

Sounds like a lazy mechanic to me. If the lifters are bad or weak, he should repalce them. Don't settle for "it was the oil" as the diagnosis. I've been running mobile 1 0W30 (winter) & 5W40 (summer) since two years ago. Never had a problem and I've got many mods and 213877 miles on the car.

If the mechanic is going to pull the motor apart to re-seal it...replace the lifters.
