Are these two classic pictures or what? A friend in his Lexus IS300 towing another friends BMW E46 M3 to the dealership, engine failure number #67 or something, I am not sure of the whole story on this car. The owner stated that the car has died 4 times.

-Drew

Theres a few Websites that are logging the M3 E46 Engine snafoo. I dont know what BMW is going to do to salvage these owners.
What a nightmare. Motors blowing up left and right. Oh yeah the cars run upwards of 80k!!!!
It seems most the engine failures are happenening to motors that were produced in Oct-Dec 2001.
Someone should send that picture to the Officers of BMW and see what they have to say.
I am happy to have my C70 any day of the week!!!!

Makes the horsepower issues ('99 Cobra) look like nothing. Read thru them and picture yourself as the customer that just spent 80k on a car that dies a thousand miles out or so. And then BMW is trying to wiggle out from the warranty. He was driving the car 2 weeks after he bought it and it wasn't making boost. He took it back to his dealer and was told that they would have to rebuild the blower and the valvetrain. His response was "Nope, this car is 2 weeks old, buy it back". They bought it back and he went out and got a 2002 Camaro SS M6.
SVT uses the Ford Racing supercharger, which is a Roots blower, on the '03 Cobra. The 4v 4.6 breathes very well and responds excellently to supercharging, but most people who S/C 96-01 Cobras are using centrifugal superchargers from Vortech, Paxton, ATI, and the like. The problems reside in Ford's intercooler setup, I'm not sure exactly what the problem is though.

Have any of you checked the link lately? The number of failures is now up to 95 from 63.
http://members.roadfly.org/jason/m3engines.htm
-Drew

The first batch of '03 Cobras had some problems. My friend's grenaded at the age of 2 weeks, I heard of at least one other doing the same thing. Several had suspension issues where they would pull hard to the right.
However, now, considering how many have been sold since then, it appears that these were isolated problems and not indicative of all '03 Cobras.
And about the S/C...I'm assuming you were behind the car. From the front and on the inside the blower whine at WOT drowns out the exhaust note
