So this weekend I got the interior back into my 2005 S40 and finally got a chance to enjoy her.

Last night was the first night I drove her in the dark and I found out the LED on the tach side of the instrument cluster is out.

I've done some Googling and found out how to get the cluster out but was hoping for some info on how best to replace the LED. I would likely change them all since the brightness will be different.

Anyone ever done this? Got suggestion on what LEDs to buy? Tips on how to get the LEDs out (I found a thread on a different forum that indicated they may be a bugger to get out).

Thanks!

Haven't done this myself, but suggest you test out the removal technique on that V50 in the Pull-a-Part near you. That way you don't tear yours up unnecessarily, and if successful, you may be able to use the LEDs from that one.

If I have time this week, I can try the same at the self-pull yard near me with an '06 S40.

Good thinking! I've got a pull a part place near me that has a "$50 all you can carry" Saturday deal and have been thinking once it dries out some I was going to make a run there and see what I can find for my car.

I always like that you could practice on their cars too. "Oops... that broke..." move over a car, try again. :) I imagine it won't be as easy to find these cars in the lot, but I can grab some parts for my F-150 too while I'm there.

Yeah, they aren't as plentiful of course, but if you don't mind a bit of a drive the Pull-a-Parts in Charlotte and Charleston, SC usually have a couple of P1s at any point in time (at least that was my experience a few years ago when I was working in SC).
