Does anyone know if the leather trimmed piece for the center console can be installed over the existing trim piece on the T5 and T6 models? It almost looks to me as though the trim just slides over and clips in place under the lip of the existing trim (i have an S90 with the leather trim piece to study)? I know it wont line up perfectly with the arm rest, but maybe this can be replaced as well with an armrest from a 90 cluster T5/T6 model? The armrests for the T8's are different, but the console piece is the same. Honestly, the entire center console looks identical along all trim lines so maybe they're universal? I think this would make the cabin look so much nicer, but don't want to buy the piece and waste the money if it isn't possible

Watching these get assembled every day, I can assure you it’s unfortunately not possible. I thought about trying the same, since the outer appearance of the top panel around the back half of the center console looks the same. However on PHEV models, there’s basically no plastic/frame underneath where the knee pad sits. All of the plastic to the left of the gear shift and in the area right under the center stack isn’t there. I don’t think I want to take a Dremel to my car, so I’ll let someone else try if they’re feeling daring!

The armrest would be the easy part, since I’m pretty sure the holes are the same between hybrid/non-hybrid models.

I got really excited by the other post explaining how to add the 90ies series leather trim to the 60ies models in the leather console. The PHEV models have a differenent center console due to the battery but was thinking the mod would still work when using PHEV 90ies parts on 60ies PHEV on my XC60 T8.

Are you saying the mod is not possible on the PHEV models at all?

I bought a trim piece from Ali Express that I saw another member had purchased. It comes with 3M tape adhesive on it to stick it on the center console (which I haven't done just yet). It's a bit cheaper, and you don't have to go taking the center console apart. I'd agree with the other person I saw that bought it. It's not the on the same level as the existing leather in the car, but it's also surprisingly good quality for what it costs. Maybe like an 8 or 8.5/10 or so. No one has thought it wasn't stock yet. You might be able to go over the stitching with a sharpie or something?

Not as cheesy as slathering Velveeta over it! You could maybe dunk the hole thing in a black dye or spray it with vinyl spray, too, so it ends up all the same color.

I have seen people dye the stitching on car interiors, and it comes out very well. I'll see if I can find the video. Maybe a liquid paint that you can wipe off the leather before it dries, and only soaks into the stitching.

I got the maroon brown one they have, it's not bad but it's noticeably different. I think I posted a photo somewhere... I'll have to snap another.
