Looking at the latest Volvos, I no longer see laminated side windows as an option. I have them on my 2001; are they no longer available, or for that matter, are they just standard now? I realize some people hate them and some love them for many, many reasons, but I'm just wondering if they are still available.
Correction... I see the S60 still has this as an option, but the V70 does not. Anybody know the reason for this?

Re: Laminated Side Windows (VolvoMax)

That's too bad. I loved the idea of no one being able to break into my car with a "smash and grab". Especially now that we might get a wagon since there really is no trunk. Oh well

I wonder if it's a problem of no one being able to break OUT of their car after a bad accident. This is a concern of mine, as a blunt object won't do the trick.
- Tryg

I wouldn't worry about getting trapped inside. If the accident really causes all 4 doors to be bent so bad that they need jaws of life to open, then you probably aren't gonna be conscious to escape anyway.

Instead of a simple one-push affair, I need to hit the button twice to switch between auto, on and manual. Re: Laminated Side Windows (VolvoMax)

Well, low and behold. We now have our new '07 XC70, and looking at the side windows they sure look laminated to me (2 pieces of glass with soft laminate between them). We didn't order anything special, but do have the convenience and premium packages. Anybody know the real scoop?

It should be there in the stamped embossing that says Volvo, etc... usually right above the door lock on the front windows. It will say LAMINATED there if it is.

Re: (Bender)

Hmm... on closer inspection, the rear windows appear to be laminated, but not the fronts. And on this car, the rears have extra tinting to prevent that greenhouse effect in a wagon. I'll look again at the lettering on the glass, but they seem to be constructed just like the laminated windows on my S60, with one piece of plastic sandwiched between two pieces of glass. Maybe that's the only way they can get the extra tinting on there without it looking like a cheap aftermarket job.

It will say VOLVO and SEKURIT or something like that and will also say LAMINATED if it is laminated. There shouldn't be any doubt/guesswork in this matter.
