Just got my Koni yellows and am going to be putting them on tomorrow with aldebaran. My question is, what is a good setting to have a sporty feel but a good daily driver? Since the rears are hard to change, I want to do it right!

What springs are you going to be using?

Since you are Modding on a Budget, I'll assume stock.

My V50 T5 is FWD and I have the stock (comfort) springs and Koni Yellows. I assume that you got the rear shocks that are specific to the S40/V50 (8040-1353Sport) and not the ones for the C30 (8040-1351Sport) even though they fit. I have done quite a bit of experimenting with the settings to find where they feel best with the stock springs.

IMPORTANT! When you adjust the shocks, do it with the shock standing up-right or at least run the shock through the full range of compression / extension in the up-right position before you install. It keeps / gets the oil where it is supposed to be. It can get out of place from laying flat for storage and shipping too. Otherwise, they feel like you have bad shocks (live and learn:rolleyes:).

Koni says that they tune the shocks to match the stock spring at the softest position. Question is, which stock springs are they talking about as there are at least 3 (comfort, dynamic and sport). After much playing around and frustration, it turns out that they are right. The best balance of comfort and performance on the stock "comfort" springs is with front and rear set all the way soft. You will still see a very good improvement over the stock shocks/struts.

If you want to trade a little ride comfort for more handling improvement, you can't get too ambitious with these springs. You can go about 1/8 turn on the rears and adjust the front to balance. Beyond this the ride degrades quite a bit feeling like there is not enough compression damping and actually feels bouncy. Remember the adjustment on these shocks/struts for our cars is only for the rebound and not compression.

The rears are not too bad to pull off to adjust. After about 10 times, I don't think much of it.

When you adjust the fronts, you will feel when you achieve a good balance by the over vs under steer. If the car feels loose, increase the front. If too tight, then back off the front.

Hope this helps and keep us posted of your experience. Also, measure the ride height before and after. There has been much debate regarding if these shocks/struts raise the car. I forgot to measure when I did mine.

I'll pretty much echo what was said above. I was informed by Koni (correct or not) that the 8040-1353 rears are 25% stiffer than the 1351. Assuming you are on the 1353 I'd start at full soft front & rear even with the Eibachs. Front adjustment is of course a no-brainer. Rear is actually quite easy as well. Just pull the top two bolts & compress the shock right in the car.

Don't you worry, aldebaran can swap the front shocks in his sleep with both hands tied behind his back. :)
I've got a time-lapse camera app on my iphone which I will try out tonight. See what happens.
We do this pretty often, though.

Good choice with the Yellows. I've also got the Koni Yellows paired with H&R Sport springs and have been using them for about a year now.

Concurring with some of the above replies, I started with the softest setting. This (for me at least) is the best compromise if you want a comfort biased but still sporty ride. It is stiffer than the stock spring/shock combo but still very compliant (IMHO, way way better than Bilstein sports, at least for me. I couldn't take the Bilstein's ride plus got worried the interior bits would start squeaking every time I hit a pothole. LOL!). It also eliminates a lot of the bounce you normally get from the lowering spring/stock shock combo.

I've gone a couple of clicks from softest now, and the ride is still great. Considering a lot of our roads here in the Philippines are crap, you shouldn't be worried. You just have to try and get the back zeroed in because each time you adjust the rears, you have to take them out.

This is true if you remove the bump stops which I would not recommend.

Hahaha, Corey said the same thing to me after I took my screwdriver and popped it out. The Koni's were very very tight though. The screwdriver trick wouldn't work on that.
I think the powder coat was too thick. Corey had to drive the car around the neighborhood before the strut finally popped in the last few mm.

Light sanding to the Inside of the Lower Knuckle or Strut Holder - Joint .

Paint supply - have 2.5 long Drums 1.5 & 2.0 " Dia. - made to Go in Drill , also great for a little Porting on Alu. :)

I put my floor jack under the knuckle and jacked it up a little, then used a small pinch bar to pry the clamp open. The Koni popped right in place.
