Key fob reader issues

So the key fob reader in my dash has begun to mechanically fail, it doesn't pull the key fob in easily, it makes grinding noises etc, sometimes i have to force the fob into the dash to start the car. I'm organising a second hand unit with the start button etc. The specialist whom I am purchasing it from tells me that they are VIN specific and cannot be set up in VIDA. Which I'm not totally convinced about, but if it isn't possible, maybe I can switch the mechanical parts from one to the other, to make it work, otherwise I'd be driving the car 1000 miles each way to my nearest Volvo dealer, as their software etc is much different to VIDA that we have.

There is a VIN break for switch #1 and #2. #1 switch pulls the key in, #2 switch does not.
Switch #1 needs SCU software. SCU = Start Control Unit. I assume that you have non-keyless ignition.
Non-keyless, press the remote to lock/unlock doors, insert the key to start the car.
Keyless, pull outside door handle, door unlocks. Do not insert key, press button, engine starts.
You can do a Swedespeed search for ignition switch and look for post for your car to see if there is a fix.
The gear teeth get worn that pulls in the key in/out. You may be able to use pieces to make you switch work again.

A used part will not work, and a new part has to be "programmed" using a VIDA subscription. The "VIDA that you have" I imagine is the stolen/hacked version of 2014d - You can't do a download with that program.

However - in some parts of the world, anyone can purchase a VIDA subscription and "program" new modules.
