I've got the K+N Typhoon and compaired this to the factory system as well as BSRs and a few others.
OK, my biggest concern is that those others use the factory front air intake piece and the Typhoon doesn't ...
but is this even necessary? I mean K+N didn't feel so , however Volvo did.
doesn't the compressed intake charge heat up so much that this wouldn't be necessary.
what do you think?

The concern I have about the K+N is twofold. One, I'm not a fan of the ECU losing cooling abilities, and two, I'm not sold that the location of the filter is grabbing "cold air." It seems that some of that air would be heat from the engine compartment, thus decreasing the efficiency of the system. Cold air is denser, thus providing more true oxygen to the engine. It seems the stock set up truly pulls cold air...
Oh, and I'm not convinced the MAF sensor wouldn't be at risk of contamination...
Just my two cents...

Agreed, the intake we are working on with drop the air filter down along the side of the transmission and im also working on a ecu cooler box. The battery box idea failed lol.

Kyle, is this something you're trying to make available for us to purchase once perfected?

Re: (ForceFed Motorsports)

how about ... the underhood (on the underhood) snorkel drivers side that puts air to the battery and ecu (with Typhoon only battery)
if I removed this ... the battery would get less cooling, but the air filter is directly behind this as well as the ecu
would this help?

Well not at the moment, basically my fabricator is looking for something new so were working with my S40 and seeing what we can come up with. If he decides that he wants to start producing more products or we want to find someone who will then we may venture out a bit.
The battery box idea i kinda kept silent was a fail and not worth the work. I was going to relocate my battery to the trunk to put my ECU in it lol. Thats a direct cold air source via the snorkel under the hood. Problem was the actual relocation as the S40 chassis is pretty tight and hard to route giant positive and negative cables and also make the ECU harness stretch to fit inside the box. If someone else wants to go that far be my guest.
Instead im making a seperate box that will hold the ecu and have cooling fans

Re: (ForceFed Motorsports)

What we really need is an ECU cable extender... There's just no slack in the current harness to be able to mount it out of the way

Re: (jdsr917)

Small? thats 3" piping all the way through. the ecu gets moved to infront of where the old cold air box mounted. Joey is making a custom bracket for me that you can mount the ecu onto. I am also looking into a small fan setup for the ecu to keep it extra cool
