was cleaning the debris from my K&N filter yesterday (gives you a good HP gain)...

for those of you familiar with the K&N..

the K&N attaches to the intake with a small section of a large diameter hose and 2 hose clamps...

anyway.. the tightening of the hose clamp on the filter side cracked the filter in the corner around the collar... i wrapped the collar in hockey tape to seal it up...

i suspect air and debris were bypassing the filter thru this crack (there was separation in the crack)

i also suspect this could be common with others using the K&N filter...

I had this happen as well. Some of the K&N filters have the wrong size opening. K&N replaced mine for free. I wrote them a detailed letter including measurements. Here is the part that gives you the dimensions

The new K&N is in (on left) and the hose fits it like a glove (I switched hoses and both hoses are identical in measure). The new filter is 2 mm larger everywhere (opening OD/ID and both end diameters of the filter) Opening has 85 mm OD compare to the original (on right) having a 83 mm OD. (New filter (left)has 75 mm ID at opening versus 73 mm on the original)

Re: (Jersey R)

Follow up....

i got the new filter...

the diameter on the small piece of hose they provide was a much better fit compared to the original... snug fit vs. 1/2" too big...

Re: (Jersey R)

Mine was replaced for the same problem w/ no issues on their end, except they sent me the wrong model; same digits but mixed up. Once I returned that, I ended up w/ two new units. Schweet. Great service. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif
Go easy on tightening the clamps. Scott

it was raised lettering on the black rubber on the "non-open" end...

There are also raised numbers around the collar on the open end... (i noticed this on the new filter, but the old filter i had taped up the crack, so i couldn't see the collar area...
