We just picked up our S60, traded in an 03' Durango that we really did not have a use for. When we started our car search I never really considered Volvo. People we know in our neighborhood have a nice 03' S80 that both my wife and I had admired but thought they were way out of our price range.
Anyway, we happened to look at Volvos after stopping at a Saab dealership which had a Volvo dealer next door. After looking at the Saabs my wife was not too impressed so she got back into the truck. I wandered over to peek at the Volvos and could not beleive how nice they looked in and out, and also the price. I was amazed at the discounting available on them.
In any case, I did a little research on the S60 & S80 then submitted a request for a quote for the S60 via Edmunds. A few days later we drove homw in our Barents Blue S60. I was thrilled with the test drive, the smoothness of acceleration and handling was great. I was hooked. I think the overall package of styling, interior, safety, performance and price the S60 was an awesome buy. It stickered at about $36K, bought for around $29K.
I liked the S80's alot for the additional room, but the reviews I've been reading on the 2.5 S0 have not been flattering. The S60 however was very comfortable to drive, and for the most part there will not be adults riding in the back. I liked the sporty feel of it as well. I think we will be very happy with it.
Hopefully in a few years time we can add the convertible to the stable with overseas pickup. My wife really like the convertible.
I'd also like to add the purchase experience was excellent as well. Didn't feel like the typical car buying experience. If anyone lives in the Charlotte, NC area and is considering a Volvo, I would recommend they see Lee at University Volvo. With all of the vehicles I have purchased over the years this was the first time the salesman actually took the time to explain in detail everything about the car. He was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the car. A+.
Glad to be a new Volvo owner.

I'm assuming the model you got was an S60 2.5T? Didn't they discontinue the NA model starting this year?
I'm confused...
Did you buy a 2.5t? If so, it's the same engine that's found in the S80's. The engine has been around a long time and can be found throughout the line-up.
Tim
PS...Welcome!

Hey there thanks for the welcomes. I apologize for my earlier typo "2.5 S0". I did purchase an S60 2.5T. I realize that the engine is the same between the S60 & S80. But in regards to the 2006 S80 from what I have read on-line, it appears that pre 2006 S80's with the larger engines performed better. Also, general reviews such as Consumer Reports did not give the 06' S80 good ratings at all. User reviews for the S80 on Edmunds were not very good either. I still think it is a fine automobile. Neighbors up the street from us have an 03' S80 and love it. Sang praises for it. I really like the larger interior. I could have gone either way. There were not many 80's to choose from locally otherwise I still may have considered one. Thus far, we are enjoying our new S60. Waiting for a call from the dealer for the spoiler. We figure it will give a little more sporty look to it.
Rande
I would have liked the multi cd changer but cannot see spending $1000 on an audio upgrade.
Still trying to figure out the auto setting for the AC. Seems like once you touch the fan setting it stays on that setting until you turn it down or press Auto again. I though once you moved the fan setting to override auto, the auto led would go out but doesn't.

Re: (Rhack)

You're not over-riding the climate control "auto" function completely when you just adjust the fan speed. The system will continue to "auto" control the damper vents to the face, floor, side windows etc. as the interior temp reaches the set temp on the dial. It's just set at the fan speed you selected instead of controling that in auto too. Full manual is when you select lets say footwell vents only, fan speed and fully cold or hot.
someone correct me if Im wrong of have left something out.
And welcome! Im positive you're going to love your new Volvo for years to come!

Thanks guys (hope I'm not making a bad assumption). I'll check out the Auto control and pay more attention to it.
