I feel like I was robbed, but I finally got the dealer to program our R for single stage unlocking and visual confirmation (lights flash) upon unlocking. I also had the complimentary 7500 service and they finally fixed my key remote so that it actually does something now. There was also a knocking sound coming from the driver-side front wheel, especially when driving over bumps. They seemed to have fixed it all. They re-torqued the suspension to aleviate the knocking, found and resolved a short in my remote and downloaded the new software programs.
The reason I feel like I was robbed is because they charged me $175 just for the programming (everything else was free- under warranty). They actually installed three programs. The two that I asked for plus an auto-lock function when the car moves forward. I didn't ask for this auto-lock function, nor do I like it. Is this program required in order for the oher two to work? $25 per program + $100 for labor- seems a bit excessive, especially since we bought the car via OSD and the factory was supposed to do this for free in Goteborg (and they forgot). Just to compare, BMW charged me $53 for a lot more custom programming than this on my 3er. Anyway, the Volvo dealer was very kind and gave me the number to call the service manager tomorrow (it was late in the day and he was already gone). So I'll call tomorrow, but I'd like to know if the autolock function is required. I'd rather not have it and would let them keep the $175 if they can remove this.
Side note- they gave me a brand-new S60 2.5T loaner and it had a lot better initial accelleration than my R (not in S mode). How could this be?
Thanks to all!
06 S60R
03 325ci
No, auto lock is not required. I just did all the same stuff for one of our memebers and he is also a customer of mine, total price.....$0.
The dealer should not have charged you. Technically the auto lock feature is the only thing your supposed to pay for, but not if you didnt even want it. Though Ive been able to get it covered when doing all the other programming, and also changing the heat seater programming to hottest setting and auto dim mirror to darkest setting. Go back to dealer and complain.

Re: Just had the R 7500 mi service + programming (not2blu)

You'd getter go back to your dealer ASAP. Those VADIS-style programs are FREE at the 7500 mile service for '06 R's. Shame on your dealer for charging you.
I'd go back ASAP!

Re: Just had the R 7500 mi service + programming (flybynight)

Thanks. I thought it was free, but different dealers seem to have different rules. I'll call them tomorrow and see what they have to say. At minimum I'll have the Autolock removed.
And even though I've only had the car back for 3 hours, it's nice to have a key remote that works for once! Ahh, the little things in life.

It is free. Volvo sent out a note that programming was free for 06s at the 7500 mile service. Furthermore, I would raise hell for getting charged on a programming that you don't even want.

Let's see,
We are having you come back for the third time on the options you wanted, and should have been done at delivery.
We fixed your key remote that should have been detected at your PDI
We charged you $175 for services that should have been free
We gave you an option you didn't want
Our time is $100/hr, yours is worth nothing so call the SM if you are not happy
All that should be worthy of perfect ten scores on our survey!
Welcome to the Volvo service experience! Great cars marred by less than great service. YMMV

In "return" we got one free service at 7500 miles. That includes changing your personal settings, oil change, etc.
Your service writer probably didn't know, so they charged you. Idiots. I personally think $175 is a lot to be charged for something that is supposed to be free.

Rear passengers have to manually pull up the lock pin, or in my case, I or my front passenger have to press the lock/unlock button for them - I have the Takspeed pins which are flush when locked which makes it impossible to manually pull up.

Re: Just had the R 7500 mi service + programming (IwantaS60R)

It's all been resolved. I sent the Service Manager and email explaining everything to him. He looked into it and called back with a full credit. All of you were correct- it's free and I'm going to take the R back tomorrow to get the autolock removed.
Funny people should ask about how the autolock functions. I didn't know myself. When I got home last night I had my daughter sit in the back seat and we drive down the driveway to engage the autolock. Then I stopped the car and she was able to open the door like it was unlocked. No extra effort required. Same on all doors. They unlock and open in one motion. That's really nice. So it only locks the car from the outside. I think this coincides with what Derek said.
The reason I'm having it removed is because most of the time the car is being driven by my wife with my daughter as passenger (she sits in the back). 2 people riding = only 2 doors unlocked when exiting the vehicle. What that means is when the three of us go out (I usually drive) I have to remember to unlock the rest of the car with my key remote so my wife can get in the front passenger seat. If there was no autolock, then anyone/everyone can simply get into the car and go. Yeah, I'm lazy and don't have time to play with door lock logic. That's why I now have single-stage unlocking now!
So thanks to all for your comments. It really helped and I'm glad I'll finally have the car programmed just the way I want it.

I have an '05 S60R and wanted the autolock. The dealer told me that it was not available for my car.

Re: Just had the R 7500 mi service + programming (IwantaS60R)

My '05 works in the same way you describe. I suspect we are talking about several different options here:
1. You can have all the doors lock when the vehicle reaches a given speed, about 5 MPH.
2. You can have an option that requires a single remote key press to unlock ALL doors. I suspect that with this option it may also be that the passengers inside the car can unlock the rear doors with a singe pull on the handle. I do not have this option so I can not confirm this operation.
3. You can have an option that requires a single remote key push to open ONLY the driver door, and a second push to open ALL other doors. This is what I have and as stated this also requires the rear doors to be unlocked by the front passenger or driver, or the lock pin pulled up by the rear passenger. This option is to prevent "bad guys" from lurking in a parking lot, and jumping in your car as you unlock the doors.
None of the above has anything to do with the child safety locks that are a manual lever on each of the back doors that prevent the door from being opened from the inside.

So that eliminates your (2) above. Also 2 and 3 are mutually exclusive, either you have 1-click unlocking (Euro std) or you have 2 clicks to unlock all doors (US std.).
BTW, my reference to the child lock was to emphasize that there was no hinderance to the rear doors opening from the inside (besides the door lock ). So, if your's work like mine then it must mean that the '06's work differently.
P.S. thanks for corroborating my version because I started to think that I may have had rogue software in my car

Agreed, I think?
Item 1 is binary, you can either have autolock or not. It is independent of items 2 and 3.
You have either item 2 OR item 3. As you stated they are mutually exclusive.
