Of all the many cars tested this year by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP), the second-gen Volvo XC60 was the safest.

With near-perfect scores of 98% in Adult Occupant safety and 95% in Safety Assist, Volvo’s tireless research into safety systems, it seems, has borne fruit.

On top of simply being the best, Volvo is the first automaker to claim the top spot in all three of Euro NCAP’s Autonomous Emergency Braking tests. The XC60, the S90, and the V90 all earned perfect scores in the city, inter-urban, and pedestrian tests.

All of this is part of Volvo’s historical commitment to safety, but also it’s more recent promise not have anyone die or be seriously injured in one of its vehicles by 2020.
