Hello and welcome a newbie. I just picked up a 1994 850 Turbo Wagon. This car came fully loaded with most options and it even has some performance modifications. First of all, it has a Greddy Profec boost controller. I have no clue how to use this thing so I turned it off. The car also has a FET TB-208 Turbo timer and Greddy A-pillar boost gauge which I removed. I'm including pictures of the car below. I did a little research and I may be interested in getting some more power out of the car. It seems that intake/exhaust is definately the way to go but is there an aftermarket downpipe available as well? What is the difference between having a manual boost controller and a ECU? Do they do the same thing? When you guys quote horsepower ratings of 280 for chipped car with exhaust, is that wheel or crank horsepower ratings? I think I'd be quite happy if I can get 280 FWHP out of a 9 year old, 146k mile car. Well, here are some pictures:

Re: Just bought an 855 T-5...Questions (sweetsound2001)

Of course crank HP. And you can guess it...they always have this imaginary high % of loss from tranny to get that crank hp figure. :D
There is a lot you can do, but not sure if there's a good intake upgrade out there that will make it worthwhile. Details can be found reading through the previous posts in S/V70 section. I posted some in C70 section, too.
Aftermarket downpipe is out there, too...but a custom one would be a lot cheaper if you do an exhaust system overhaul.
MBC...poor man's cheap way out. ECU....the right way to do it if you want to ensure your fuel and ignition timing are adjusted to the optimal setting.
280 FWHP is not hard to get, but not the easiest either. The key is to get a safe 280 FWHP...which takes some work.
Congrat on the new ride, keep us updated on the upgrades. You can always read up the previous project car of Swedespeed to get a better idea.

Hey sweetsound! Welcome to swedespeed and the world of volvo.
Is this the same sweetsound with the maxima and the lexus? I thought you got another maxima, but a volvo is even better! If this is the same guy, are you going to sound deaden the hell out of this car as well like you did your other ones? Looking forward to that writeup.

Oh btw, I might be interested if you still have that boost gauge.

Yes that's me. I sold both Maximas that I had and may even sell the Lexus as well. I have to figure a few things out. I don't plan to rip this car apart but I would like to put a nice stereo in here.

SWEET!!! (no pun intended). Welcome aboard. That's too bad about the lexus. You did some hardcore sound deadening on that car, as well as the maxima. Did the accumat end up working or was the stuff still dripping?
I look forward in reading up on your audio endeavours. FYI, the original designer of the C70 audio system posts here as well (Audioguy).
