previous owner told me tranny had been replaced by dealer, not sure what else i should get looked at. Also thinking of painting it black (currently dirty white with ugly black plastic impact strips), if anyone knows a reasonably priced place that does decent work in LA let me know, thanks guys

Earl Shibe, or Maaco. Get underneath that sucker and check out all your bushing for cracking or worn bushings. Congrats on the buy, and post some pics of your ride.

Maaco is the worst. If you absolutely have to use them make sure you do all your own prep work and prepare for lots of overspray.

+1 to the bushings, wouldn't hurt to check your vac lines and IC hoses as well.

Paint it black and figure on everything affixed with Volvo eco-friendly glue popping loose from the extra heat load - interior panels, sunroof reinforcements, headlining. Under the hood, your corrugated wire loom sheathing will crumble sooner. You'll have to spend enough to buy another 2001 T5 to get a factory equivalent paint job. Black cars are a mistake in the Southwest. Wax the white. Your ride will be cooler. Reconsider black for snow country. Some models have color-matched bumper trim or find someone who can paint the bumper trim; but every nick and scrape will show. If you've a new transmission at 58K consider yourself lucky, have the trans fluid flushed anyway, and repeat every 35K or so. Make sure trans has latest software. Search the forum for maintenance tips.

Use a cheapo paint shop if you plan on doing a lot of prep work yourself.
