The weather was beautiful today so I decided to work on the R. Just did a few cosmetic mods.
First up are QuickBrick Motorsports cluster trim rings.

They make a great addition to the cluster. A subtle addition that makes a big difference, IMO.
This was the 2nd time I attempted to do this and was finaly successful. I removed the entire dash to make things easier. It's really not that hard once you know where all the screws are.
2nd mod done was a Japanese RHD passenger side wide-angle mirror. It's the driver side for us LHD folks. I had wide-angle mirrors (both L and R) on my Passat and it made a big difference. Thanks to [email protected] for sourcing these for me!
The mirror:

Before:

After:

Of course I saved the best for last. The final mod of the day.
Before:

Half-way:

After:

More pics here
If you haven't guessed, they are the Euro-spec Jewel lights. For the corner light bulb, I'm using Polarg G34 bulbs. They are much better than the full amber bulbs they came with. But may end up getting something else as it's still a bit amberish.
A big thanks going out to [email protected] for sourcing parts for me and for putting up with my questions.
Before you even say it, I know I need to move the horns!
I still need to get the car to the shop for paint work and that'll get done in time. There will be some other cosmetic parts that will get installed at that time as well. Going to the dyno next weekend so a temporary boost gauge will be installed for that. After that will be some suspension components (ipd sways, QBM adjustable end links and an OEM Strut tower brace).
I may try to find some 17" or 18" rims to roll on this year as well. But that's the plan for this year. Gotta save up some $$ for bigger plans coming in future years

Re: Just a few mods (Volvo Grrrr)

Well, what I can say... Only
Now we have to compare light output between old style eurolights and new one. I know know, there is nothing to compare but still would like to see it. Also would you mind to make a picture of dash at night, wondering if these rings (BTW they look great) affect the light pattern.
Keep the good work! My car is going to bodyshop this week. Finally will paint the ugly hood.
Kirill

BTW, Ron where you going for dyno? Just curious.

Nice, Ron. I've been eyeing the QB trim rings. If I ever decide to do the center speaker for the SC-901 (which I have yet to install ), perhaps I'll roll this mod into that project ...
As for the jewels -- what can I say: I'm jealous
Cheers!

Cool, thanks, seems like I was wrong. Looks very sharp. Now I have to find "R" cluster, I passed it once and never had a second chance.

I love the Euro-spec Jewel lights, that is definitely a mod I would like to get, however too expensive for me to consider....
The car looks great

Ron,
Car looks great! I can't wait to see it when it is repainted and some of the other cosmetic mods are added.
Every customer who has bought the Euro Jewels has never regretted it; once you go jewels, you can't go back

definately looks great Ron, can't wait to see what rims you end up with. The '00 V70R is a classic.

Re: Just a few mods (Volvo Grrrr)

The wide angle mirrors intrigue me -- the previous owner of my S70 added those small round adhesive mirrors to each side, which help a little bit with the merges (and are great for parallel parking), but I like the sound of having an even wider field of view on my left flank.
Does anyone know if the mirror parts for this 2000 V70R would also work on my 98? How difficult is the swap?
Thanks!
p.s. -- I love the "halfway" shot of the headlight conversion. Great comparison pic!
[Edit for model accuracy ]

It does take some time to get used to it on the driver side. It will work just fine on your 98 S70.
Swap is easy. Push the mirror in on the edge closest to the door. Then pull the glass off on the exposed edge. Once that side is off a bit, start pulling around the edge of the mirror. It'll pop off. There are 2 wires that connect to the mirror for the heating element. Remove those and install in reverse order.
Corner lights just snaps in. Real easy to swap them out. I did it in about 20mins.
One bolt is a slight PITA as it's underneath the hood latch. I used an extension and a needle nose pliers to get the bolt out. You can also take off the high beam cover and get at it if you have small hands.
Nice jewel headlights. I concur, very expensive, but a nice addition. Aren't they like $1000??
Where did you get the rings for the odometer etc? Easy install. Any pics of that process?

Re: Just a few mods (soledoc)

Yep, jewel lights are $1K.
Got the rings from http://quickbrickmotorsports.com/ You'll need to PM Slater on Volvospeed.com to get them. They were $75, IIRC.
I don't have any pics of the process but the instructions included are very good. The exception I did was taking off the entire dash. Real easy to do. Cluster just lifts out and there are snaps that you need to unsnap to get the cluser off. Pop the rings in and re-install in reverse order.
