Join the Washington Volvo Club! Membership includes a card that enables you to get a discount on parts from Volvo Parts Departments, and the club newsletter 'Volvamus'. We also have Do-It-Yourself sessions at local Volvo dealers in the Washington DC area. We've been to Martens, Annapolis, and Don Beyer in Alexandria and Falls Church to name a few. You get the opportunity to wrench on your Vo in an official Volvo service center with their lifts and expertise at hand. Pizza usually follows. If you like to wrench on your own car, this is a really good thing! Being a member really pays off for me.
The club usually meets at Martens Volvo/Volkswagen in Bethesda on the fourth Tuesday of each month but we are always looking for fun places to hold a meeting to shake things up a bit.
We have held events such as picnics, specialty speakers and we have a yearly banquet called Firande. It's always a good time.
There are many interesting folks in the club. Most know a great deal about their cars and are a wealth of information if you have a similar model. I was helped a good bit when I installed new struts in my car.
If you would like to join, check out the site and fill in the registration form and print it out, and send the membership fee and the form to the membership address.
If you would like a copy of Volvamus, check out parts departments at local Washington Area Volvo parts departments. Many will have some extra copies. I have a few current ones about, so let me know. But if you join, you get one every month!

Just figured I should share. It's a cool club. I enjoy it.

Re: Joining (kowalski)

When's the next Summit Point track day? I'll join ASAP when that happens.
I instead joined VCOA, mostly for the parts discount and bimonthly "Rolling" since there's no local chapter. I'd like to check out one of the monthly WVC meets and maybe I'd consider joining. I don't suppose they do anything at Don Beyer Dulles? That's just ~5mi. from me.

Re: Joining (towerymt)

I think we're working on it. That's the only Don Beyer we have not yet held a DIY. If it wasn't on the calendar this year, then perhaps there's a good chance that it may show up next year. Our coordinator for those events sets them up far in advance, but having one there would make sense. It's a top notch facility and it's easy to get to. I may just talk to him to see if I could be the POC and work on setting something up.
If you want to stop in for a meeting, please do. A few members have memberships in VCOA and VSA as well as some other interesting marques. Morgan, Packard, BMW. We're really just car guys that LOVE Volvos.
We've had a couple of folks new to the club come in in the past few months. I'm usually the youngest person there. Everyone else is still very young at heart when it comes to their Volvos.
Two months ago, we had a guy come in to talk to us about damage sustained by cars in collisions and how that affects the Volvo driving public. He rebuilds 2,7 and 900 series cars mostly but he sees the occasional 850. It opened my eyes to how the 2,7and 900s are put together and how bad they really have to be before they really are totalled. We may have him back to talk about other things too. But I don't know when. If you have any ideas about folks that might be interested in speaking on car/Volvo/safety/performance/car care type stuff and push their business, they would be welcome at meetings too. We are always looking for folks to host clinics at shops or just come and speak with us about stuff.

One month we had a guy named Ken Greco come and talk to us about automobile art. He is a dealer in fine auto art. So it can be anything related to what us car freaks are in to. We set it up far in advance and then put it in the newsletter so it has time to circulate.
Look forward to meeting you this next meeting then if you can make it.

Re: Joining (kowalski)

At one time, I belonged to the Washington Area VW Club (now inactive), but they met at a detailing shop on 355 in Rockville called Details, Details, Details. The owner was a nice guy and pretty informative. Might be worth a try.
