Hi folks, I just did something crazy and ordered a 2018 V60 Dynamic off carvana. Former rental with 11 months of service and 19k miles. 4 cylinder, AWD, heated seats/wheel, BLIS, navi, sport seats.

I will be getting a pre-purchase inspection done in carvana's 7 day return window. I was planning on taking it to a dealership. Any other recommendations in the NW Chicago area (southern Lake County, northern/NW Cook county) that know Volvos?

Are there any issues in particular to be aware of with these cars?

I hope this works out and looking forward to joining this community. It'll be great to get back into a wagon after trading in my 03 Passat wagon 6 years ago for our minivan.

Thanks!

Funny, I just happened to pop over here moments after you posted :)

I still have the car within the 7 day return window. I had a PPI done at the local volvo dealership and they said it is missing all the center console screws (I had noticed that it wasn't secure and was rattling), an alignment, and new tires (seeing some cupping and feathering). In the process of having the dealership work with Carvana's maintenance provider (SilverRock). They also will reimburse me for a detailing up to $150 (interior had a LOT of crumbs, dust, some sticky liquid around the cupholders) and will pay for Safelite to come out and fix a windshield crack. Only thing outstanding is whether they'll reimburse for a rock chip on the hood with exposed metal and some rust.

Otherwise, the experience with Carvana has been good.

As for the car, things I like:
- the handling and ride (much better than my '03 Infiniti I35)
- fuel economy (much better than my '03 Infiniti I35)
- sport seats are super comfortable
- cargo space is long enough for skis/snowboard with center seatback down
- 40-20-40 folding seatbacks
- it looks great! I like the color (Osmium Grey Metallic)
- It came with the cargo cover, so that's nice

Bummers, but not deal-breakers:
- bluetooth has a slight lag
- infotainment/navi screen is small - you'd think they could've increased the size of the screen at some point
- manual passenger seat - it won't be adjusted often, but the seat recline knob is VERY inconveniently placed. At some point, I'll be on the lookout for a power sport passenger seat
- if it were just 3-4" longer (1-2" rear seat legroom, 2" cargo), it would be perfect. somehow, my old '03 Passat wagon, which is only 1" longer overall, felt much more spacious.
- it's practically impossible to open the glove box all the way when someone is sitting in the passenger seat.
- Not a huge fan of the electronic owner's manual. Looking online, it looks like it doesn't come with a paper manual, just the supplement, navi/sensus guide, quick start guide, etc. Searched online and it looks like there is only a pdf version available from volvo, not an actual book. Is that correct?
- No spare tire, although it looks like one can be added.

Deal-breakers:- None. Looks like I'm going to keep it! Just hope I can get the alignment and center console issue fixed.

Things I need to do:
- Need rubber floor mats for footwells and cargo area - midwest and snow! Any opinions on Volvo OEM vs. WeatherTech floor mats or liners?
- Any recommendations on sources for the spare tire? Would prefer that to the goop kit.
- Trailer hitch for bike rack - looks like most people use the Curt or Draw-Tite trailer hitch. Latter seems to be a bit more heavy duty and cheaper at etrailer with free shipping, so Draw-tite seems to be the choice. Install doesn't look too bad, either.
- Has anyone put on all-weather 3 peak mountain snowflake tires on their S/V60? If SilverRock can be convinced to replace my tires, I'd like to explore getting the Vredestein Quatrac, which has the appropriate 18" size (235/40-18). Rated for 45k miles - given that I drive less than 8k miles per year, should get at least 5 years out of those tires, if not longer.

I'm sure there is other stuff I'm missing, but I like it so far.

EDIT:
Thing I missed - looking at replacing the plastic bottom cover with the IPD version. IPD indicates that the cutouts aren't aligned for the 2.0T, which is what I have. Has anyone cut out new holes for the 2.0T, and maybe closed up the other holes? Assuming it shouldn't be too difficult to hack.

I'm glad you had a positive experience through Carvana. I will have to check if my car has a physical manual; I haven't had to use it so I'm not sure. I agree with you on the screen comment. It's just too small, but after you start driving and enjoying the car, you eventually stop noticing. It's also weird Volvo put manual adjustable seats for the passenger in the Dynamic models, especially for the class that this car competes in. I'd do anything to get those sport seats though. Does your car have the TFT Instrument display? I know a few S60 Dynamics came without the feature.

It does have the TFT display. I forgot to mention in the "likes" that this is a nice feature and that the display is real purty :)

I changed it over to the red theme. One thing I haven't figured out yet is tach/speedo in the display. Default is tach needle with speedo numbers in the middle and "power" on the right side. There was a picture in here that shows the center display speedo and tach on the right side. Will have to look through the manual at some point.

The blue one is called the "elegance" theme, the red one you have it on is the "performance" theme, the other one is the "eco" which is mostly white/green, you can switch it using the menu controls on the control stalk, the same way you switched it to the red theme.

Non R-D's have the "Elegance" theme as well, it's just grayscale as opposed to having the hues of blue. Ideally Volvo would have allowed us to customize some of the colors & parameters being shown, but beggars can't be choosers :)

Welcome to the forums and hope you enjoy your V60!

Ah, the Elegance theme. Time to find it when I head out in a few minutes.

Thanks for the welcome!

One other thing I noticed is a lack of sunglasses holder. Looks like there is one that replaces the grab handle on the driver's side. Will need to pick up one of those...

I'm not sure if its only on the R-design or not but at least on my car there's a small pocket thats a perfect size for putting a pair of sunglasses on the front of the seat, i.e. sit in the drivers seat and reach between your legs.

I discovered that random pocket on both front seats. Did it have an original intended purpose?

Also, found that the Elegance and Eco themes both show speedo in middle + tach on the right side; Elegance has temp on the left and Eco has "Eco" gauge on the left. Sven787 nailed it - Elegance is basically gray-scale (not terribly Elegant - would've loved that R-Design blue theme) and Eco is greenish-gray, which I actually kinda like.
