Completely different part number. I don’t think they’re even Bosch.

Also the injectors that look correct have absolutely no markings on them.

I’m sure FCP will make it right, it’s just a little crazy!

If you want 100% for sure genuine volvo greens ive got a set from a 2000 R (yes they came in 99 and 00 Rs first before the P2) that were ultrasonically cleaned, all o rings and caps, filters replaced and then flow tested. “Used” but as good as new.

Your photo even shows two different types?

I'm sure FCP also shocked and their vendor will have some explaining to do.

Alright - I got all of the correct injectors from FCP and finally got a chance to install them last night. I've done this a few times now so it only took 1.5 hours start to finish, so getting faster.

The eBay injectors were definitely crap. Four of them broke when I removed them. The new injectors fixed my hard-starting issue. In case anyone is wondering, this is what real Bosch injectors should look like when you buy them new (they were sealed and I cut the seal):

Looks great! Does that mean you can safely get good part-throttle logs? Perhaps a WOT pull?

Yep! I finally got my exhaust rattles sorted out and sent another part throttle log to Hilton. The car feels great now, so I am looking forward to the WOT pull. I will take a vid and post it when I do the WOT pull.

At partial throttle everything sounds about the same as stock, but it does pull much stronger.

When you can, please update us on your MPG in normal driving too. Can't wait to see the video!

Will do on the mileage. First tank I put through it was about 19.1 mpg with mostly city driving, although that was mostly with eBay injectors. It is definitely better mileage than I was getting before.

As a general update, I did get the OK from Hilton to do a WOT pull, and now I just have to wait for roads to be driveable. Maybe Friday. It drives awesome at part throttle tho!

The next mods I have on my list are rear hitch (I already have the trailer module and factory wiring harness to install, just need a hitch), upgraded headlights (preferably retrofit projectors with HIDs), and general cosmetic cleanup of the exterior.

I have an (irrational?) desire to install Brembo’s from an S60/V70R, but I don’t think I ever will as I don’t really have an issue with the stock braking performance. Looks like about $1,000+ for all the parts for that upgrade.

Some day I will get new wheels, and would love to get some 19” Cratus wheels. Hard to find, though. I’m also not sure I can ever convince myself to spend $2,000 on wheels/tires when it’s purely cosmetic. I’d rather spend that on new mountain bike stuff...

Forgot to ask, can you hear a difference in the exhaust pulse with the japanifold?

I used to drive Subaru and went with UEL Borla replica headers for that 'burble'. Loved it. Not sure I'd go through the trouble on the XC90. It's an easy re&re underneath a Subaru...

RE brakes, the Brembo's are definitely a nice upgrade. What do you have now? I had 316mm calipers from factory and definitely wanted to upgrade. I decided to go OE 336mm calipers. They're heavier but according to some maths that ScottishBrick did for piston size, pad surface area, should be slightly more power over the 330mm Brembo setup. But at expense of weight I guess. Anyhow, the 336 are plug and play. I also went with braided brake lines. One of primary reasons to upgrade was for towing. I'm very happy with the result. I bought junkyard calipers - I may update to some Centric remans from FCP once the border opens up.

I haven’t been able to really tell any difference in exhaust tone from inside the cabin at part throttle. Tons of turbo noise when it gets into boost, which sounds kinda cool. The whooshing definitely overpowers any exhaust note.

On the brakes, I’m really not sure what I have. I did new rotors and pads on this XC90 back in 2014, and it looks like I bought parts for 336 brakes at that point. I would have asked IPD about sizing, and I assume it wouldn’t work if I had tried to use the wrong pads in my calipers? SoI guess I already have 336... I certainly wasn’t aware of the number of options there were for XC90s at the time.

If you have a factory 7-seater for a 2006, then you could/should have the 336mm brakes. You could try different pads and there are already threads on that ;)

Ahhh ok, yes it is factory 7-seater so that makes sense. Guess I will leave the brakes alone then. I am happy with the Ceramic pads and Bosch QuietCast rotors (as you mentioned - other threads for that!)

There's a guy selling refurbished 19" Vulcanis over in the wheels classifieds. Still need to buy rubber, but upgraded wheels always makes a great visual improvement.

Quick update, life has been a bit busy lately:

I still have not done the WOT run. Been having an issue where the car would lose all boost with no CEL, but sending a clear codes from a OBD-II reader would return to normal.

Just a few days ago I got an ‘open circuit detected’ DTC on Cyl 2 fuel injector and the corresponding misfire code. Sigh. So the drama over fuel injectors is not complete. Ordered replacement through FCP, again, and hoping that will be resolved.

I noticed during moderate acceleration under load (going up hill) at highway speeds that I have a bad vibration. I just replaced tires and got an alignment, so I am suspecting CV axles going bad. I will order new CV axles today and get those in.

At some point I will also be replacing the fuel pump and cleaning out the fuel tank of any trash. The duty cycle on my fuel pump is higher than it should be in logs, so that is just a matter of time before it has to be dealt with.

Happy Monday!

Also on fuel mileage - it seems to mainly depend on the trip and which way the wind is blowing. I got one tank where I averaged 22.3 mpg, and another thank where it was around 18 mpg, both highway driving. Seems to overall average around 20, which is better than I got before.

Replacement fuel injectors installed - no longer any misfire. Still need to order replacement axles, then I will finally do the WOT pull and post a video.

Quick update:
I’ve been trying to figure out what was putting the car into limp mode (no boost but no codes), and I finally caught it while doing a data log. Turns out it was caused by overboost.

I have replaced the MAP/boost sensor to eliminate that possibility, but that did not fix it.

I have tested the wastegate adjustment, and the wastegate actuator starts to move at 5psi, which is close enough to spec (4.5 psi).

Hilton has provided me with an updated tune to control the wastegate better, so hopefully that will resolve it. Then I’ll finally do a WOT run!

It’s crazy how much more power the car has at partial throttle. I have been driving it now for 6 months with only partial throttle and it still has more power than stock at full throttle.

ECM-601C, signal too high?

I get that with my tune occasionally too.

I haven’t checked it with VIDA to see the DTC, but I should probably do that. Rob could apparently see the overboost from the log file.

I loaded the new tune but no luck. Couple of mid-throttle accelerations into 3500 RPM and limp mode again.

I checked my wastegate actuator from the 14t that I removed, and it seems to move much more smoothly. I am going to swap the actuator and see if that solves it. I looks like it will be a PITA to get to one of the actuator bolts to swap them…
