I have been more of a lurker than a poster for the past 2 years but I have learned a lot from you guys (and gals). Thank you!

With a growing family and my height 6'3" the R has been a royal pain when it comes to hauling kids.

Last night I picked up a Mazda CX9 Grand Touring which has a little zoom zoom in it despite weighing 4500 lbs

Should any of you be in the market for a SUV/X-Over I strongly recommend taking a look at the CX9. I got mine for 32K (9K off of sticker) and it has everything a 50K Lexus has in it.

Happy motoring!

Damn, that's a great deal on a CX9. Looks like you must have RSE / Nav on that combo to get to $41k.

Best I could do was get them to $37k when I was looking, which matched A-Plan (or S plan or whatever) pricing. Which is why I bought a slightly used MDX for the same price. At 6'2" I couldn't fit with the sunroof either, which was the final straw. That and the nearest dealer was 30 minutes away.

However if I could have gotten one for $32k, that's be in my sig, not the MDX.

CX9 indeed has much Zoom Zoom. I would HIGHLY recommend one for any enthusiast who must buy a people mover. The cargo area is simply enormous, but it drives much like the R. The engine has good power, and the transmission is simply divine...6 speed auto with the geartronic function in the PROPER order, shifts like a dream.

Nice choice, and good luck! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I've rented both a CX-9 and a CX-7 and was thoroughly impressed with each one. I would go with the smaller one myself, being under 6' and with only one child.

Congrats on the new ride. ZOOM ZOOM

Congrats on the CX9. We did a 3000mi tour of the Eastern seaboard with an infant and all of the goodies that go along with him and the CX9 was a blast. Averaged about 24mpg traveling at 75mph loaded!

I have never had any problems with my Mazdas that weren't immediately and painlessly resolved by the dealer.

Sorry to hear you go, but good deal on the Mazda. FWIW I'm 6'3" and have kids, and the V couldn't be a better car for me...it hauls in more ways than one. Perhaps when (if) Volvo reintroduces the R you'll go for the wagon.

Good luck!

We also have an 08 CX-9 and we love it. It's the touring model AWD, 18's etc. It is very cavernous, good strong motor and unbelievably smooth on the highway. Good luck with it!

oooh, the Lexus RX is dung. It's the sloppiest, most sluggish vehicle I've ever driven. And the traction systems are the most annoying I've ever encountered.

Other than that, I have no strong feelings on that vehicle.

Don't really care on the slug comment. It is for the wife after all
. We like the fact that it's oh so quiet, rock solid, and it's a toyota, so the reliability is there.

Not sure how Mazda's reliability is since they are owned by Ford.

Mazda's reliability is fine. As a matter of fact, Ford's isn't so bad either. I would still think twice about the Lexus dude, really. Make sure you take it out for a test drive and throw it around a bit. You might not want to spend the coin on that thing.

Yep, definitely will. Gotta get that refund first!

Sister in law has a RX330. ROCK solid, that's what sold us. But definitely gonna keep the CX9 as a choice, not feeling the 2010 RX.

I REALLY liked the Edge when Hertz gave me one for a rental. Had it for 3 days all around Philly and NJ areas. Nice interior, great on-road dynamics (for this type of vehicle), and plenty of room inside. Gas mileage was abysmal though.

mike, I agree the 2010 RX looks a bit bloated now. I'm not sure what $$ they want for it, though. Has it gone up?

Agreed, and yes, MSRP has gone up slightly.

Agreed

x2. According to Edmunds, it gained 400-500lbs IIRC.....and looks chubby in the rear quarters.
