Well after some probs with my 05 S40 T5 AWD, I bit the bullet. I had the money and wanted a little more bang for the buck, so I decided on trading in for this... A 2006 Wicked White Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR with SSL (say that 5 times fast!). All I can say is wow...the acceleration of this beast is unbelievable (sub 5 second 0-60). Handling is also out of this world. Stock for now but basic bolt-ons (exhaust and MBC) with tune can easily yeild 360 AWHP. I'll post some more pics later. I'm grateful to the swedespeed community for help and will continue to log on daily to see what's up. It was great while it lasted.
-Alex

That's quite a trade in, haha. It's a shame the S40 had to give you so many problems, but atleast you found an awesome replacement. Enjoy it.

Cool...if you are under 25. So you had reliability proablems with the Volvo and then decided to trade it in for EVO?? Odd choice.
Good luck.

With 286hp at the crank to start with, I have a hard time believing you can pick up that much AWHP with just exhaust and a boost controller. Why would you use an MBC as opposed to having the ECU remapped and using the factory BCS?

I am partial to the blue Evo but white looks good as well. A word of advice, go easy on her for the first 500-1000 miles. Prior Evo's have been reported to gulp oil if not broken in properly.

There's a guy on the evo forums who also has an S55 AMG, 988 RWHP 996 Turbo, 2006 M5 and the new 997 Turbo...the Evo is his favorite! And about the 360 AWHP with basically an exhaust and MBC and tune read this http://forums.evolutionm.net/s...97420 with MBC turbo-back and custom tune 355 AWHP to the wheels!

Odd that the OP was in a Volvo to begin with if this kind of car gets his attention (and his money). Not a judgment -- more power to him (so to speak) if he's happy with the Evo. (Although with $3-plus gasoline here in the States, power for power's sake starts to seem pretty frivolous. I guess that is a bit of a judgment there. )

evo 9 dynos over 280hp... figures are under reported.
its easy to make power on a 9, couple of my friends run them. but you wont find 360 AWHP with just a MBC. tune and exhaust. looking at least at a bigger turbo and FMIC set up and some other bolt ons.

Best of luck.

Quote, originally posted by XK120 »

Well after some probs with my 05 S40 T5 AWD,

I'm surprised you'd opt for an Evo if the problems you had with the S40 turned you off. As far as performance I have read the Evo is a monster but reliablity is not one of it's strong points.

Sorry man but that car is Junk, kinda like a white garbage can. I know a few people that own them, they talk trash, and then I walk them in my mustang, and they keep talikng trash.

There's word we'll see the 9's in Canada, I really hope so as I would like to see them around. I prefer the lancer over STI.
And sorry if i'm uneducated but why all the hate? White garbage can? Under 25? What's wrong with someone that likes Volvos liking a lancer EVO? I mean sure they're a little "loud" as far as design but seriously there's a lot of "bang for buck" for sure. And it's competition (STI) is no less wild in appearance.
Anyway, congrats, too bad the Volvo wasn't better for you (but at least you got rid of it before your sunroof exploded )
Edit: and what kind of Mustang do you have that beats an EVO 9? Not saying I don't believe you but it must be some kind of machine. Did you race your friends around a corner? Or just in a straight line?

I'm pretty sure my BMW and I could "walk" your mustang around a road track... it takes driving skill to stick it around curves. Even my S40 beat one of my buddies Mustang GTs (with 290whp) around an auto-x...
The EVO was a great choice if your into Auto-Xing or Road Racing... but even as a daily driver it still turns heads of true enthusiasts!

(If bang for the buck is truly the concern) For that kind of money you could buy a new Mustang and a vortec blower and be putting out +450hp. Of course you'd have to forgo the added traction and complexity of awd.

Actually the trick is keeping them going in a straight line on anything but dry pavement. Add a little rain or snow to the mix and they'll spin like a top.
I have nothing against the Evo either. Not my cup of tea but to each his own. Like I said best of luck to Alex.

No offense man, but thats a little boys car IMO, I see your 17 though so youll enjoy it. I hope you dont plan on keeping that thing for the long run.
Either way though best of luck to you! I hope I am wrong and you do enjoy it for many years to come

Re: (Copeland)

Thanks all...I do plan on taking the car to the track as that's where it feels most at home. Like I said the main reason for the trade was probs with the S40. I wanted a car that was reliable and fun to drive. For those who say it's too "boy racer", it's really in the eye of the beholder. There are MANY evo owners in their 30s 40s and even 50s because they realize that for the money there is no better track car. Plus, these things look much much better/meaner in person than they do in pictures.
