While reading some the recent posts concerning the level and quality of service some of the dealerships are providing, I find it difficult to think that Volvo does not have a greater grasp on this issue.
For instance, the Volvo dealership here in Dayton, Ohio will bend over backwards to make an issue with your Volvo correct with minimal inconvenience to you. Take the wheel bearing issue we are all experiencing..I notified the dealership when they opened 7:30 AM, and they were at my house picking up the XC90 and leaving a loaner car by 10:00 AM. By 11:30 AM I received a call with a diagnosis and an apology as they will need to keep the vehicle overnight for parts availability issues. The next day the car was delivered (washed) and with another apology for the inconvenience the issue caused. The dealership then called me a few days later to follow-up.
Another example of excellent customer service was when I first purchased the XC90 and I wanted an opinion concerning the procedures and techniques for changing the oil on the V8. The service manager escorted me to the maintenance area and allowed me to discuss my questions with the Volvo mechanic. The mechanic not only provided me with the helpful hints, but also gave me an oil filter wrench.
Yes, it is frustrating to have issues with such an expensive vehicle, but the high level of customer service keeps a smile on my face as there are so few times these days in which you feel you have been treated well. One other thing..the service folks here actually listen to you...

Sadly, I have not experienced this kind of service. This is probably one of the biggest reasons when my spouse needed a new car we ended up with a Toyota (how sad that Volvo dealerships are worse than Toyota) instead of a Volvo.
WORSE YET, I have written to Volvo of America TWICE, and never receieved a response....

To those who live in the SF Bay Area - try Carlsen Volvo in Palo Alto (ask for Dan). He is the most helpful service advisor we have ever known. He will definitely treat you right...

Re: It all comes down to excellent customer service !! (safetyfirst)

We bought our V50 at Volvo of Las Vegas and George, our personal service tech, was awesome. He met us the night we bought the car and though we moved soon after our purchase my dealings with him and the dealership were always great.
We left Las Vegas and moved to Italy where we have had a couple of bits of repair needed and the dealer here has been even more helpful ad accomodating. Given our two encounters with such great service that we have taken the plunge and order a new 07 XC90 3.2 AWD. So far, I have nothing but priase for Volvo and their service (both at the dealer and factory support ends).
Mike

And if you are on the east side of the SF Bay, try McKevitt Volvo in San Leandro. Talk to Colin or Mike: they are both fantastic guys, always willing to help and very, very knowledgeable. The service is first grade and the facility is second to none.

Makes me think we should have a list of reliable service managers / dealerships / non-dealerships that excel in service. Kind of like Click+clack's Mechan-X files. Might be useful for potential new owners of Volvos ?
