This is annoying. For all consumers and retailers.
Volvo keeps stating they have updated the part or materials. Guess not.

 

HVCH failure isn’t limited to Volvo.

 

What other brands have this issue?

 

Hasn't been cold enough to try mine on my 2018. It has already been replaced twice. At least the part will be free next time it fails (according to my service manager). I forget what labor costs to install. Thank you for posting.

 

Ours died on our 23 XC90 T8 this past spring, 25K miles. Carmax now owns the T8 and we went back to the B6 to get rid of the weight and complexity of the hybrid. In just under 3k miles of driving we are seeing 30 mpg. No complaints with those figures.

 

When was your last replacement ? Do you have the PN?

 

Whelp, got the new one installed yesterday. Went from “it’s a 5 hour job” to “we might need the car 3-5 days.” Got it back overnight. Service advisor told me it’s an updated part, but the paperwork didn’t have any part numbers. Hopefully the 4th time is the charm. I’m debating asking Volvo to extend the lifetime parts warranty they offer on parts installed outside warranty to the HVCH. We owned our last car for 13 years and only got rid of it because it encountered a deer at highway speeds so…I don’t want to pay for a 5th (6th? 7th?) HVCH once we hit 100k miles.
