I did a search and it seems that this will be safe to do without redoing the wiring harness. the draw says 55W and output is 85W. The volvo manual says 55W (but doesn't distinguish between draw and output and I'm no engineer so I don't understand the difference).

Re: Is this the right yellow fog light? (soledoc)

Beware of ordering stuff from overseas. Remember, their trademark laws are lax. They have lots of "replica" or counterfit products coming out of there. I learned my lesson from buying Airsoft parts.
How much are you really saving by buying from Ebay?
Its probably legit, but I am just paranoid.

I was just using that as a pic. thanks for the advice. I don't need to buy it from ebay. Maybe a more reputable source?
But it says the location of the item is in California...maybe the product is manufactured in Japan.

Try the Piaa site for a dealer search.
As far as the it being the correct bulb, I am not sure. But I remember someone saying the Piaa Crystal Ion was the way to go. I have the Silverstars. I tried going the yellow bulb route, but found that the light wasn't really that yellow, at least not as yellow as Lexus' IS fogs.
http://piaa.idealerquik.com/custinfo.asp

I have been using eBay for a long time, buying all sorts of stuff. Judging from the link, they look like a very legit seller. Keep in mind the seller is in the United States.

You can get them from autobarn.com for a good price. I asked the same question about the 55w=85w a couple months back, and could not get a definate answer.

So, I Roll, you've got the PIAA Ion Yellow Crystal H3 fog lights in your car now? No problems? Are they yellow like the Lexus fogs?

I've had these exact bulbs in my '03 Acura CL and yes, they looked just like the lexus yellow bulbs! They really helped out in the fog and rain! Check them out...

OK, Juve021 which bulbs are those(PIAA yellow ion)? Did you put those on your R? I like that look. They're yellow and that's what I want.

Sole, they are the ones in the ebay auction above, PIAA Yellow Ions (H3). No, I haven't put them in my R yet but I agree with you, the look with the yellow and the xenon is pretty nice. Plus, like I said before, the yellow really helped visibility in the rain and fog.

Is it H3 or H1 in our R's?
I wanted these bulbs years ago for my MR2 and tried to get them from Japan, and couldn't even find them there.

Re: Is this the right yellow fog light? (mister2cool)

If you guys like the yellow look, why don't you just get 3000K HID bulbs? They cost between $200-$300 and are fairly easy to install. I don't tend to like to install things myself on my car, but these I could do.
It's like changing the brakes or rotors...not difficult.
Plus the brightness and clarity is second to none. I have no problem with foul weather anymore. I just need to experience them when in a snowstorm. The OEM xenons suck in foul weather...so it was worth the cost for me.
Good luck

They work much better in true fog but all yellow lamps are coated glass, so will reduce some of the intensity/output and therefore will reduce the throw.
Won't be improvement as a driving lamp but then the stock halogens are so pitiful in that role you won't notice any degradation. But you'll be glad to have them in the fog.
