NEED HELP! NEW TO FORUM
Sorry, I do not know where to post this!
I was called by the dealership where I bought my 2006 S40 T5 this morning, and they asked me to come in to look at my car. They said they would like to upgrade me as they are in need of S40's for resale. I have called to the management at my dealership previously, complaining about my S40, as I have had so many problems with it, and have needed to bring it in many times. Once it stalled in the middle of an intersection. The lady on the phone said that the reports from their repair department show that my vehicle is in excellent shape, and they would like to trade it in for me. I am very uninformed about cars in general, and am skeptical. Why on earth would they want my car back? Are the newer cars even LESS reliable than mine? They also said they would provide free repairs for the next 60,000 miles. This has got to be a scam...
Is there a place where I can get an objective opinion regarding this?
Thanks so much!!

Re: Is the Volvo Dealership scamming me? (delempicka)

errr...
no need to scream the sky is falling. Dealership calls and asks if you'd like to trade your car in...where's the scam?
No thank you, I don't have the money to upgrade, no thanks I'm okay for now, or maybe I'm ok with mine for now. All acceptable answers here, no need to call the authorities just yet.

Ummmm...........typical dealer BS to get you in the showroom and sell you a new car. And yes, any 2009 Volvo purchased before 6/30 has 5yrs/60K included:
http://www.swedespeed.com/news....html

no, they said that they were going to do it for free? my neuroticism stems from the fact that I have complained to the manager about it, and he was pretty much a jerk (like big time). Now he has the front desk offering to take mine back and give me a newer upgraded model for free. I just do not trust this guy at all, and am questioning his motives for upgrading it for free...

Re: Is the Volvo Dealership scamming me? (delempicka)

Ive never heard anything like this before... i mean the dealership i work for will offer to buy the car if its clean when they are in for major repairs and often times the customer will find that buying a new car is the smarter choice.
Ive never heard of them trying to call people and buy their cars off em though lol. The free services are the warranty services up to 60k so if you like to change your oil at 7500 mile incriments then your golden. I personally dont.

Okay, MagoonR, yeah. He is probably BSing me yet again. Free...? I'm sure there are stipulations. Got it. I was wondering what his schtick was. Thanks
Benjr...this is the first new car, so I've never encountered a call asking for my car back.

Nothing's free..my guess it's something used that's 'comparable' on the lot. But it's all speculative at this point to even know the guys intentions.
I've heard this tactic before from a friend where the dealer called him wanting to buy his car, but it was something along the lines of trading it in rather than an exchange for free.

Thats what bothers me as i prefer to change my oil at least by 4k. They tell customers that thinkin that they wont have to pay a dime for anything for the first 60k but is false. Most dealers and lube shops have 3k or 4k mile service interval that differs from volvos higher mileage recommendation. Customers will have to pay for the in between oil changes if they dont want to follow the 7500 intervals that are paid for.

This is actually a big increase if you factor in how much the maintenance and replacement items would cost.

Allow me to pipe in here. A couple of different things may be going on: 1. Your car, over time, is worth much more than what they're willing to pay you for it even IF they really do give you a good trade-in value. Even if someone buys it for the exact same price they pay you for it (extremely unlikely) they'll most likely not pay cash which means 4 or 5 years worth of interest. 2. By "free" upgrade (and I've seen this before) they usually mean your trade-in serves as a down payment (what they pay you - what you owe the bank), but your loan will start over completely. So they basically get the best of both worlds selling a used car to some chump (likely getting another maintenance customer in the deal) and selling you a new car as well, with both payments making them a hefty profit.
Are they scamming you in particular? Probably not. Just working the system to their advantage. Really the only question is whether or not you want a new car, which, if you're unhappy with the current one why not?
