I have a 1997 850 GLT and change the oil (mobil 1 synthetic 10W-30&pureone filter)in my car every 5000 miles. I have just notice that the car is starting to use oil. About 1 qt every 5000 miles.
I took my car to a shop today and he said that he found a small leak around a rubber tube that connects to the turbo. Sorry I don't know which tube but he said that the leak wasn't big enough to leak out a quart every 5000 miles.
He thinks that the seals are going out on the turbo and the oil is burning though the turbo.
What do you guys think .

The good news is that I have a extended warranty on the car!!

If he means the oil return line from the turbo to the sump these always tend to leak a bit and is nothing to worry about.
If your turbo is not smoking out of the exhaust or making a load whining sound then its unlikely its on its way out.
The oil consumption does not sound too excessive.

My car is doing that too... it also was leaking out of the seams of the oil pan area there... it was leaking so bad at one point, there was oil actaully comming out the back of my car and was collecting on the rear of my car... (not to mention the entire underside as well... :-/) The big problem was the leak on the seams of the oil pan, now its down to about what your talking about. Its fixable, but isn't worth the fix, unless your one of those super anal people that has to have everything perfect all the time... for now, i'm just going to wait until I get a turbo upgrade or something where I will be down there disconnecting everything anyway

Well I guess I'm one of the super anal people that doesn't want his driveway and car covered in oil.
Anyway if my extended warranty covers having the turbo replaced would upgrading it make a differance on a GLT ? What turbo do I upgrade it with and how easy does it fit ?
