Summer 2006 Northwest "R" GTG's - IPD Meet? (see page two)

The recent warm and sunny weather (until yesterday at least) has the R on my mind, specifically detailing out the exterior for Summer. Lead Foot, were you still interested in planning a meet in the Fife/Tacoma area next month? I loved the dealership experience/involvement with Barrier during our last GTG, so perhaps Volvo of Tacoma would make for a nice meeting place next time. I for one will attend depending on the date and time.
On a side note, I really hope this was someone here on S/S (if so, thanks again!):
http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...56399
- Tryg

Modified by RainyS60R at 3:46 PM 6-7-2006

I'm up for a meet-up. I thought I heard somebody mention one in July, but that could have just been the voices in my head.

Over Rte. 2 to Wenatchee or the North Casccades highway (Rte. 20 by Mt. Baker) or something like that. Maybe a ferry ride over to the penninsula and a drive back??

I am definitely in with StaggRLee regarding a drive. To top it off we could find some place that serves Duff beer and talk about the day's events.
I believe Kris (flybynight) was trying to get a drive together as well.

Re: (dgloveR)

I too would prefer a drive - I remember Lead Foot 60 was trying to organize an event with one of the topics being detailing. The North Cascades Hwy would be a blast, albeit a long day trip and a bit too far north for some.
Ideally, I would like us to spend more time with the cars comparing and sharing our ideas and mods. The last meet at Barrier was incredible, but I had to leave early and never had a chance to look at the other R's in attendance.

OK folks, lock up Saturday, July 22nd for the Detailing Tech session at 11am at Griott's Garage, 3500-A 20th St., Tacoma, WA.
The detailing Tech session is being set up by our comrades in the Puget Sound VCOA, and we are invited.
But, I will need a head count for this one as we could overwhelm them if we have really big #s. Either PM me or reply here.
I will post further details, especially if there are any changes.
As for a drive, I'd be up for one in August? How about it Kris?

Re: (Lead Foot 60)

I'd much rather have the GTG at Griott's home on American Lake, but I suppose his place of business will do just fine. I should probably leave my new Zaino kit at home then, eh?
August seems SO far away. Perhaps we can arrange an earlier drive, too.

- Tryg

If you want to do a drive earlier, there is one coming up on June 17-18th with the Volvo Club of British Columbia.
Go to http://www.volvoclubofbc.com/
I am planning on going and would like to have some company. Interested?

Re: (Lead Foot 60)

Lead Foot 60,
The two-day drive sounds like a lot of fun, but it's a tad too long. I would like to attend a Vancouver event sometime - they appear to be a pretty active group judging from their website.
It might be a different story if my wife was more supportive and would come along. She thinks I am nuts about the Volvo as it is. I've tried to compare my Volvo obsession to her clothing habit, but she always throws it in my face that she doesn't have an online forum to discuss her next trip to Nordstrom. I haven't thought of a proper response to that one.
Have fun! - Tryg

Oh what horrible weather we are having this weekend. Good thing I had nothing planned!
Anyway, I think August would be a good time for a drive. On July 22nd I will be in Norway, so I won't be able to make that meeting
As for the drive, here are some of my suggestions (and I'd be happy to have you guys stop over one evening to discuss)
1 - ferry from Seattle or Edmonds. Drive to Port Townsend for lunch. Ferry from PT to Keystone, and then drive north on Rt 20 to Deception Pass (nice photo opportunity), and then loop back to I-5 and south. Fun to have all the R's on the ferries.
2 - Rt 20 over North Cascade Loop. This is a 400 miles loop, so maybe a little long unless we cut it shorter. Take a look at this website for details. Beautiful drive!
http://www.cascadeloop.com/
3 - Rt 2. Start in Snohomish and drive East to Leavenworth. Fun drive. Get some German food in Leavenworth and then head back
4 -Chuchanut Drive. Nice costal drive. Lots of places to stop for lunch and pictures.
Here is a website on it:
http://www.chuckanutdrive.com/
5 - Mt. Rainier Loop. Rather lengthy, but oh the beauty! Stop at the lodge for lunch and keep carving up those roads!
6 - Ferry to penninsula and drive to Squim and/or Port Angeles. Drive up to Hurricane Ridge for lunch (Maybe picnic). Beautiful view up there.
I'll be in Norway from July 21st - July 30th, so I am thinking one of the Saturday's in August.
For any of these drives we could always do a picnic as well, especially if we do the Mt Rainier loop.
Of course it would be great if some guys from BC and Oregon show up as well!

You made a typo. I corrected it for you...

Quote, originally posted by flybynight »

Oh what typical weather we are having this weekend.

Quote, originally posted by flybynight »

1 - ferry from Seattle or Edmonds. Some of the southern residents could then split off with a shorter return.
Second choice is a Rainier loop. Haven't been up there in a while. Late lunch up at the Sunrise Visitor Center/Lodge at 6400'. The views are stunning. I'm willing to bet at least a few of us haven't been up there.

Second thought...
If we're looking as far out as August...
What about the Barrier Track Days? It's about $300 for a day at the track but it's a day on the track.

Can you guys IM me with your e-mail addresses and we'll discuss. I had to rebuild my PC a couple of weeks ago, so I lost everyone's e-mail address.

Hey guys - I'm good for a days drive - but let's not wait until August for heavens sake. I say we start a drive at the geographic center of those that wish to have a drive - hmmmm, that would be Woodinville, right? I need to put some miles on my car and its legs need stretching out some. A short drive up to La Conner could work maybe taking the back roads. Have a spot of lunch at La Conner and return. This wouldn't take much more than 4 hrs out of a Sat or Sun. Take back roads on east side of I5 on the way up and take back roads on west side of I5 for return.
Or... we could take a spin out through Darlington to SedroWoolly (sp?) - some nice curvy roads out there.
Anyhows - I'm up for a drive and in fact need to really get my car out onto the road more.

I'm up for option 2, 3 or 5 and I'm seriously up for a track day.
In regards to Barry's response I agree August is too far out but will indeed partake in any activites scheduled for then but would also like to do an additional drive before then.

For those interested, please send me your first and second choice via e-mail to [email protected]
Also, a couple of possible dates would be nice. July could be tough. The 4-day weekend of the 4th we're going camping near Friday Harbor. The 21st I leave for Norway for 10 days.
