I read about self-programming is not offered after MY1998. Is it true?

Two bad, I have two original keys but only one remote. It would be nice to get another remote.

MY98 cannot be self-programmed either. $110 plus tax in my area from the dealer or $90 from my local Indy. Honestly I still don’t yet have a working FOB for my wagon. It can wait ;).

A key remote is $175 itself though. My key fob lock button is not usable now. Unlock button still works. I can still live with it by not leaving any thing valuable in it, and don't lock the car at all.

Find aftermarket one $25. Seems I should spend this money at dealer some day. Is a real VIDA connection to Volvo needed to program it (eg, store the remote key id in the car)? Could a VIDA DICE do it?

Looked around, seems VIDA subscription is needed. :( I'd pay the dealer if they could program my third party key remote, don't require purchase from Volvo.
