I came across this while doing some research on another car purchase.
Dension lists MOST support for the XC90, but not a date and not the S40.
Make of this what you will.

http://support.dension.com/den...0.php
Re: iPod update (steverino)

Dension has been promising this forever; it has been much-discussed here. But it does look like they are making progress, at least.

Re: iPod update (mullmann)

Thanks for the update steverino. I'm really excited by this. This is the first time I've seen the actual product from Dension. It looks well thought out (and real). They keep listing the XC90. That pretty much means they have to support the S40/V40, right?

Re: iPod update (Greggor)

I saw a similar article on ilounge, except there was no mention of any Volvo products.
Here it is-
DICE iPod car kits debut, MOST fiber optic integration offered
By Larry Angell Senior Editor, iLounge
Published: Monday, April 10, 2006
News Category: Accessories tell a friend print this page submit a news tip

Dension has announced that it will will be distributing DICE Electronics’ new iPod integration kits. DICE offers three kits—Hard-Wired to MOST, Hard-wired to CDC and Hard-Wired FM-RDS—which give you “the highest in sound quality, controls from your radio and steering wheel, charging for your iPod, unlimited playlist selections and more.” The MOST kit ($400) is for Mercedes Benz and Porsche vehicles vehicles utilizing the MOST fiber optic bus. I am waiting for someone to come up with a solution for the V50 - at present I am using the Griffin iTrip Auto.
Working for iLounge I find it frustrating that I happened to pick one of the few cars which doesn't allow me to 'plumb' in the iPod.
The iTrip is OK as a stop gap measure, although finding a frequency which is clear is hard in the UK. If I go out of my local area it sometimes picks up stations which introduces crackling into the sound.
Guess my patience will be truly tested over this subject.......

Re: (mJrO)

How have you got it connected? - I asked the Harmon Kardon people at MacWorld 06 about whether I could fit the Harmon Kardon Drive+Play using the FM Modulator version and they said no. From what I understand the MOST system doesn't have a regular antenna connection to allow a FM Mod box to sit in.
Any light is gratefully received!!

Re: (BobV50)

It's realy simple.
Parts list:
- ipod car dock (in my case i used a belkin unit with audio out for ipod mini).
- audio cable
- fm modulator
- ground loop isolator (very usefull to stop alternator noise).
- power wires (red, black... the works).
- soldering iron
Locate the antena connector (V50's it's on the rear side windows, and on the s40 it's on the rear window.
solder wires to each pole of the antena conector, and then connect those same wires to the fm modulator output.
power the fm modulator using the acessory lines (car on: fm modulator on; car off: fm modulator off).
Connect the ipod to the car kit, and then the kit to the fm modulator and it's done.
Speaking in sound quality, it's cd quality.

I have some pics, don't mind the Portuguese "notes" on them

and the carpc/ipod console almost finished:

PS:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCa...51928
This car dock is compatible with any ipod and has the 3.5mm audio output.

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCa...95153
This one is for ipod mini only (i have this one).

The instalation was free (first ipod setup, they were learning so i didn't pay anything - i have a very good relation with the dealer ).

Re: (rthai)

It's a pretty basic setup really.
Ipod is mounted using the ProClip Holder and Brodit Vent mount.
I did also try using the Centre Console mount but found it was difficult to select first/third gear - this mount should be OK with an autobox though.
The Griffin iTrip Auto was recommended as being one of the best. From using the original iTrip on my 4G iPod I was less then happy with the performance as it really needed to be almost next to the antenna to give a decent reception. That and the palava you had to go through to select a different frequency didn't help.
The iTrip Auto is a lot better, though not perfect. I have to use it in the DX mode which is mono, due to hiss when used in the LX (stereo) mode. This is not as bad as it seems, as gaining better reception but losing stereo is a reasonable trade off as a temporary measure - ideally I would love to have stereo, but this is only a set up I'll use until I find a better solution.
With the LCD display on the iTrip Auto, changing freqs is easier than before and if I drive out of my local area I find the sound develops crackles (almost like listening to a well worn record) as adjacent stations bleed across into the freq I use (105.9), so having the LCD display is a help.
At present I am using the iTrip Auto plugged into the front power socket with the dock connector end clamped into the ProClip holder, so it's just a case of sliding the iPod in or out to connect it. The actual iTrip is tucked behind the floating console and the cable from the power outlet is tucked around the lower edge of the console.

This is, hopefully, a temporary measure until someone comes up with a solution for the MOST system - although from reading these forums as a lurker, this has been rumbling on for some time now
