That's a good question. I have an 2004 so the center console removal maybe a little different from your '05 model.
I routed an USB cable from the trunk to the center console by going over the driver's side wheel well, then across the rear bench seats to reach the center where the run under the carpet is only about 12 inches. I removed the bottom of the CD storage compartment, loosened two screws and I was able to lift the rear part of the center console high enough to run a snake toward the rear. The carpet is unlike anything I've seen in any other car. It is a thick and goes not have much give.
My original plan was to use a Belkin TuneDok and put the iPod where the cupholders are. With the TuneDok in place, it still provides enough clearance to close the cupholder lid (on an '04 anyway).
