I have a 2006 S80 in which I had a local Volvo dealer install the Volvo iPod Adapter.
In the interest of safety, I know that the Volvo Adapter "wants" the user to plug in the iPod (in my case, my iPhone while using the iPod application) and control it via the dash or steering wheel controls. I found this limiting and tedious, and soon discovered that if the user holds down the Home Button on the iPhone while in iPod mode, this would "trick" the system somehow to where the next time I brought up the iPod application I had full control on the iPhone screen. (However I still had volume control on the dash and steering wheel.)
Holding down the Home Button on the iPhone for a few seconds was the way to force quit any application on the iPhone, and was very handy - especially in the scenario outlined above.
Apple recently released ver 3.0 for the iPhone and iPod touch. On the iPhone, this version kills the old protocol of Home Button application reset. Instead, it now relegates the action of holding down the Home Button for a few seconds to a feature of the just released iPhone 3GS - that is, it activates the Voice Control only available on that iPhone model. (I have the original iPhone.) So, holding down the Home Button on my iPhone now does nothing.
Since the Home Button does not act as the reset button (by itself) anymore, you must now hold down the top (sleep) button on the iPhone until you see the shutdown screen, and then hold the Home Button to quit an app (such as the iPod in the iPhone.) Since this changed, my previous little trick won't work anymore, and the above NEW protocol for quitting an application doesn't give me the desired effect; that is, bringing up the iPod screen for full control in the car. Anyone discovered the workaround? (besides going back to the previous software version, please!)

Try searching and or asking this question in the S80 forum, too.
