Well, after waiting for quite a few months and using up all of my extra "lunch money", I finally ordered and installed iPd's sport exhaust on my beloved V70! Scott (at iPd) was kind enough to make it fit in my budget while one of our techs was kind enough to donate his time and install it for me.
The exhaust tip is different, it is not round like the S60's or those from previous S/C/V70s are. It has a pointed edge to it and not huge in size. The pipes are about 2 3/4" wide, the whole piece was solid. Many of our techs came over to see it being installed and were commenting favorably as to how "precisely" the system seemed to fit under the car.
Once it was installed, certain adjustments were needed in order to make sure the exhaust tip was properly aligned. We banged (well, kind of) here and there and the best we could do was to make it straight but it was only 1/16" away from the bottom of the rear bumper! Anyway, I started it right up waiting in fear for a loud and booming noise....as the RPM went from 0 to about 1500 before settling down to about 650 (normal idle) it did kind of boom but not loud...just very sweet!!! I was all smiles! I was inside the car, it being all the way up on the lift while he was checking for exhaust leaks (none were found)...At idle the spor exhaust was slightly (and I emphasize slightly) louder than with the stock exhaust...I was yelling at him "Come on, lower the damn lift, I need to go on the road!"...So, here comes down the lift, removed the bars, put it in reverse, slowly getting out of the garage and going toward the exit of the lot. About 6 techs were out expecting me to do a burnout but I was not going to indulge them. As I am standing at the exit of our lot, ready to make a right, here comes a Corvette (about 30 meters away) coming fairly slowly...I see him, he sees me and he just accelerates slightly...I am thinking "you know what? Here is a chance to see what my car will do plus give the guys a show"! I turn and STC was not nearly enough to keep the right front tire from spinning wildly, the Corvette is right on my butt by now and then I shift into 2nd gear and I was (as usual) plastered against my seat, shifted into 3rd, did not even look to see how fast I was going because I was looking forward to the STOP sign coming up fast; checked into the rearview mirror and the Corvette was about 10 meters away from me and finally caught me.
The exhaust was not loud at all, you hear a very slight "boom" (it sounds lmost like a BMW 3-series) from 700 to 1,300 rpm and then nothing extra!!! The best compromise I could have hoped for! So, my hat is tipped, once again, to TME/iPd. They did a fantastic job with both the ECU and the sport exhaust! Even my super noise-sensitive wife did not mind it! And passing her "audio test" is the best endorsement!
When I returned, a couple of the guys told me how amazing the V70 looked as I pulled in front of the Corvette, heard me shifting and the car "shot forward like a slingshot" (this was from a guy who is a perennial Mustang fanatic and scoffs at anything less then a 350 cu. in. V8)...Well, it felt like it.
Is the car any faster? I am not sure (even though TME claims that it does add abour 12HP and that many foot-pounds of torque) but it does feel like it is slightly faster at top end. Oh, one more thing. Before the exhaust, when I was accelerating while in 3rd or 4th gear, I did feel a bit of pulsation (not STC-related) which I attributed to the way the ECU upgrade was configured. Now, it is gone! I guess the free flow of the exhaust did eliminate that...who knows?
The only "problem" so far is that the part of the bumper that is almost touhing the exhaust tip has melted a bit... Hehehe! So, I will make some more adjustments tomorrow and shave the melted part (very small, can't see it unless you crawl under) off.
Next, perhaps a BOV installation, the V70R (MY2000) turbocharger and HID lights (in that order of importance)...The pace of upgrade will depend on the state of the economy as I have to keep enriching my son's college fund first!
But I am in love with my car even more now. I have not listened to the stereo for three days now...just enjoying the other music!!!
Yannis

Good for you GreekBoy. I just got my ECU from IPD this morning. I wished you lived near by so we could take our cars somewhere and see whats up. A V70 versus C70 with the same mods matchup. That would be cool.
I will post a story in the C70 section when I get the exhaust installed next week.

Hahaha, nice. The Vette owner probably stayed back on purpose, fearing that you were some pissed off soccer mom though Unless that Volvo can run the 1/4 mile in under 13 seconds (I'm pretty sure you're not there yet), he wasn't tryin
Sounds like a sweet deal though, I'd like to hear one of those IPD exhausts in person
Got any pics of the exhaust tip, or any of the system from under the car if possible?
EDIT: Face codes are all different...

Well, I had posted my pics in the previous forum but I guess they were erased as the chance took place. Here they are:
1st pic of Sport Exhaust
2nd pic of Sport Exhaust
108-lbs. And no, I am sure he did not mistake me for a pissed off soccer mom; I know I am not a paragon for male beauty but I am pretty sure that I cannot be mistaken for a woman and Halloween is not here, yet!
Yannis

Why does that tailpipe look so scratched up? Please tell me it's just the picture...

quote:
As far as the Corvette is concerned, I am sure that he would beat me on a straight race but I don't think he expected me to accelerate that quickly and that fast! They said they tried to line up with the guy and make a run but they didn't get a chance.

No, the tailpipe is not scratched. On my way to a park, after a rain, I went of a gravel-lined parking lot. So, what you saw as scratches is just dried up gravel dust.
The tip is polished and looks very nice when clean.
My apologies for the bad presentation but I do not own a digital camera and I only borrowed one from work for two days...
Yannis

Hey man its all good.
We should organize a meet of all the Swedespeed folk in the NorthEast area (according to Yahoo Maps, you're about 2 hours from me). I'll bring my digicam and get some good pics of everyone
