Re: IPD Softloader ? (Short Circuit)

Hot damn! I'm so excited to wake up my R. Guess this gives me a chance to get my electric cut out on the cut out thats already in place... Can't wait to see how it runs in the 1/8th with the current setup.
This caR sounds WICKED with the cut out uncapped!
Rue

Make sure you put your battery on a trickle-charge/charger or else you're increasing your risk of crap happening. On a 2-year old battery, I nearly drained it - the process takes a while on a laptop to flash the code to the ECU.

Re: IPD Softloader ? (Short Circuit)

About a week is what I remember reading for the tune when I was looking into there softloader. I feel you on being anxious, when I want something, I want it now! Hence why I just drove down to IPD.

Now thinking about it this makes me curious, is there any differences between IPD's softloader tune (1 week for tune) vs. having IPD tune a car at there shop in Portland (about 30 minutes for tune)?

But I think a trickle-charger is not adequate, especially if you suspect a weakend battery. Best to check with IPE otherwise you may truly end up owning a brick (bricked ECU, that is, and the off the the dealer you go!)
LTA
Get a battery charger or rent one for the upload. I picked up a decent one for less than $50 at one of the major parts stores. It doesn't make sense to spend over a $1000 for the MTE tune and not use an adequate charger. Also, remember to change the laptop's battery saver mode so it doesn't shutdown during the upload. All points are covered in the instructions.
Have fun on the first drive. Remember your closure times will be much faster - easy to run up on another car. I had to adjust to the time-distance perception difference.

Re: IPD Softloader ? (ZenZone)

Will make sure to use a charger, should be able to get one from someone at work no problem.
On the topic of batteries, I'm sure mine is more than a few years old, would it make sense to just replace the battery to avoid future problems?
And in other news, I may be a Colorado R owner soon. Suppose to be coming down on orders to Ft Carson soon. I'll be looking for a Samarai when I get out that way
Rue

If you do come to Colorado be sure to watch for GTG's and get on Brett Borders' mailing list. It's a good group here.

If your battery seriously can't handle a 5 minute flash, you must have the most crap battery in the world. A relative had their alternator die and still managed to drive the car for almost a week and 50+ miles on the highway before the whole car finally died.
