Re: iPd or Steffanson Af ecu reprogramming (Johann)
Ghgh, just kidding.
As far as RICA is concerned I don't think they are represented by anyone in the States at the moment?
I think the reflash technology iPD uses comes from TME.
It sounds very nice, no soldering to the ECU.
The ECU of my S60 has been soldered many times and it nearly died the last time because a print track broke.
I have tested 17 different chips so far.
I did some testing with the boost controller and now that I have found some nice boost settings we want to copy the boost curve to the ECU for use without a BC.
The 19T chip is getting better and better each time.
I think that a mild tuned 280-290HP 19T setup is the way to go instead of a high tuned 16T setup.
I am under the impression that it gives far less stress to the parts because the power in provided in a much smoother way, very well balanced.
At 1 bar boost the car is such a pleasure to drive it's almost unbelievable.
I also would not be surprised to see a MY2004 19T T5 producing 265 or 280HP from factory.
The Unichip sounds awesome to me but takes hacking the wiring loom to make it work I guess.
The MY2001--> models use ME7.0 and MY2002 and MY2003 use ME7.1 to my knowledge and I don't think TME/iPD can flash the ME7.1 at this moment.
The new software is very difficult, MY2003 apperantly uses rewritten software compared to the MY2002 model so things have changed again.
RICA is working on a flash or serial programming system but not satisfied so far, don't ask me why.
For warranty reasons the choice to not solder the chip is understandable but when done by professionals there's not much to worry about, that is when it's a one time job
I still think Volvo is fully aware of the huge sales benefits initiated by the chiptuning business.
In Europe a lot of people buy the Volvo turbo models, specially the D5, with only chiptuning in mind.
Customers look at the specs in the catalog and read 300HP T5 instead of 250HP or 200HP D5 instead of 163HP not to mention the huge torque gain.
European chiptuners also offer engine warranty program's.
VAG in the Netherlands sell factory tuning as an option already, I think AbT is the supplier.
Now only if Volvo would offer an option to remove the 210 kmh speed limiter on the LPT models...
