Irvine, CA -- Visitors to the annual Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) convention in Las Vegas noticed a distinct dash of testosterone has been applied to the milder of Volvo's model offerings, the V40 wagon.

Volvo specialist ipd (International Product Development, Portland Oregon) modified the entry-level hauler adding a wolfish look to its normally mild appearance. 18" road wheels and low profile tires; modified and lowered suspension; ventilated large diameter disc brakes and special paint give the V40 a street-savvy urban cruiser look that's at odds with this model's traditional appeal.

I really wish they had gotten something else than Total Soft Wheels, maybe it's cheaper that way. It would be even better if they had painted the side molding.

Hehehehe...I cannot believe someone out there actually thought his shopping cart spoiler with 20 lbs viynl is more attractive than this V40.

We're off to a good start - now all we need is the T4 version in the US so they can build a real V40R for next year's show.

That's got to be the most tasteful exhibit I've ever seen out of SEMA...

I agree, that V40 is so nice looking. It is understated and mean looking at the same time. If the rumors about Volvo using the I5 in the next generation 40/50 series are true, imagine the tuning potential! Those things will be scary fast!

As always, Volvo is years behind and overspent on their projects as well as still not quite up to par - but hey, that's why the Focus is taking the spotlight because Volvo can't.

Besides the V40 being an older platform, so perhaps behind some competitors there, how do you see that? I don't see your reasoning.

This is a styling and performance excercise, and I think it pretty cool.
