IPD AMS (Air Management System) vs Evolve AMS?

3138 Views 36 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  -Pascal
I just saw that a new product has showed up on the IPD web page. It's called IDP AMS (Air Management System).

Doesn't this look like a copy of the Evolve AMS? Is it maybe the Evolve with an IPD logo on?

If they are two independant systems, is anyone better than the other?

IPD does not mention anything about hood grilles like Evolve does - wouldn't these be required for this system to really create a performance benefit?

there is a another thread around here where ipd discussed their AMS. IIRC it comes from the same manufacturer as the Evolve one.

Both look really nice and both are not worth the $$$ IMO for the HP if any you'll receive. The cutout for the headlight is nice. On other cars I've seen cut-outs made in the actual headlight so the air can flow straight to the filter. Any takers?

Re: IPD AMS (xman03)

... IPD sourced it from Evolve - wow

Awesome!

As an asside, IPD is obviously willing to stand behind the product. It's possible that having *their* name on it, along w/ the reputation, customer base, exposure, etc., that it's worth it for them to have it.... that's money in their pocket, as well as Evolve's (who has been selling this thing to individual vendors since before the release!).

Since your DRL are all but useless just holesaw the one on the driver side and pipe it in

LOL
Although it is a bit pricey IMO, it does look good!
IPD mentioned in another thread that they simply sourced the intake from the same manufacturer as Evolve did, with a few changes, namely branding and filter selection. It's quite common to see that in the aftermarket world (just look at the EST exhausts!) ... and a little price competition is a healthy thing!

Hell I would get it if only for the cosmetic value.

And now the Evolve haters / IPD fanboys get to have it too...

Units are inbound, we're actually providing an exisiting product rather than re-inventing the wheel as our testing showed it was quite well designed and will be well suited for the R.

The units we're getting are effectively the Evolve AMS, made by the same manufacturer but they'll be branded with Ipd logo on them.
Re: (-Pascal)

maybe after i do the down pipe stg 2 and ic ill do it!!!! enless i find it for a goood price
Will the R kelly/IPD intake work with this new IPD AMS. Would the AMS with the R kelly/IPD intake work as well as the AMS with a hood grill? I wonder?
Re: IPD AMS (Air Management System) vs Evolve AMS? (andersh67)

That is the identical air system as Evolves. The blue filter is Evolves Race filter. If evolve has rights on that filter, IE their patented design and given to an outsourced company to manufacture and that outsourced company is now selling to IPD, there is Patent infringment and a lawsuit enivitability. It is possible Evolve is private labelling their system to IPD as it would provide greater market share as people on "SS" hate buying from Evolve.

i understand IPD outweighs everyone else in product support, customer service etc.

But i just find it hilarious that people will be all over this one because it simply says "IPD"
But some of those same people were talking ****e and being negative about the evolve one when it was released. Just my 0.02

Evolve just doesn't have the best track record with their products so obviously anything new from them will be met with a sense of scepticism.

And the very same product released later on by IPD will be lusted after and touted as one of the greatest mods of all time.

I like it a lot but I don't believe in gains from this over an R Kelly'd stock box with a good filter. Looks damn good though, ouch.

Absolutely, that was just because it was Evolve. Now that it is IPD they will praise it.

Social dynamics follow the same patern in all aspects of life. Some people will be republican and others will be democrat. Some thought that if you didn't believe in "Freedom Fries" you were unpatriotic and a trator while others were appalled by the disrespect. Some will follow the herd and others will not.

Everyone is opinionated for everything.

Re: IPD AMS (-Pascal)

Seems a bit like a waste of space to me...
Re: IPD AMS (S60R1)

Just take it for what it is. A nicely designed intake that now two Volvo Specialist sell. I have seen intakes for over a $1000.00
It comes down to what each individual entusiast likes... I am ordering mine from IPD because every time I call them or email them I get a response or a live person that helps me out or answers my questions. I know that if I have any problems or issues that it will be handled. Plus I feel if you can stick to one company (IPD) for the most part it is easier to deal with, than trying to source a different component from every company. I will be outfitted mostly with IPD except for the EST exhaust which will be ordered here on Monday... I can't wait to post up a suprise when I complete that special little project I have planned witht that... Anyways back the the point, to each his own is what I say. Customer service goes a long way in business! http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Re: IPD AMS (kmg_S60R)

FWIW, the Evolve unit has the better filter imo. The IPD one is smaller and conical, while the Evolve is nice and flat and wider than IPD's. If that's the only difference (i.e., pricing is the same), why wouldn't everyone want to get the better filter included in the purchase price (iow, go with the Evolve)?

: edit : Unless of course, the IPD filter element is actually the better unit for airflow and quality

Nope, still a piece of $1 plastic injection molding and will add absolutely ZERO HP.

If you like the look, then that is what you are paying for, nothing else.
I'll pass on a $400 piece of plastic.
