This 1997 960 Volvo station-wagon worked fine when I drove it to the shopping center. When I came back from shopping, the car started fine but would not shift out of park. Since it was a hot day, I tried to open the power windows, but they too were inoperative. After turning off the car and trying again several times, suddenly it worked again. This problem has happened several times now. Can anyone tell us what's going on?

Thanks :~)

Welcome back, Molly.

I noticed that your 965 has had other problems associated with electrical stuff.

Consider replacing the ignition switch (the part that the inition key slides into) then be sure to use the ignition key by itself and not hanging on a ring with other items.

Thanks so much once again George! BTW, how come you can't have 'other items' hanging off the key-ring?

Over the years excessive weight on the key ring wears the locking mechanism so when you turn the key it tends not to make a good connection with the switch electrical contacts.
