I just bought an '04 s60r with Altacama leather that has some rain damage i presume. The passenger seat is badly discolored and it seems as if the leather is even eaten away a bit. There are also streak marks down the door panels that are discolored as well.
The other problem I have is that there are several small chips on the center console, where the cupholders are. Is there any good way to fix this?
Has anyone else ever had these problems? Warranty wont cover it im sure...
TIA

Re: Interior woes (phuz)

From what you are describing it sounds as if your car has been under water. Did you check the vin# to make sure "Katrina" had nothing to do with it? There are alot of cars coming to your neck of the woods from that area that have been in the flood. I hope not. But it might be worth checking into.

Lexol will likely help, but if the leather is truly eaten away, you have a bigger issue. I would think the solution in that case is to get the leather re-done.
Atacama looks nasty when worn. I posted a picture a while back that showed what worn-out Atacama looked like. Reminded me of something you'd see in a nursing home.

Re: Interior woes (Elmoworld)

Mind if I ask a stupid question,
If you just bought this car, WHY DID YOU, if the interior is all discolored?
I would CARFAX the car immediately to see where it came from and if it was a flood car, you have recourse.
If not, as was said above, you can try Lexol.
Use the cleaner once or twice then use the conditioner SEVERAL times.
It should at least get a bit better but I'm still puzzled why you bought it in the first place.
If you do the above and it doesn't work, PM me. I use a franchised national company that works wonders on leather.
My guy here has "saved" a couple of R's that had Atacama and I'm sure that they have someone in the Atlanta area to help you, BUT it will never look exactly as new, but close.
Please try Lexol first

Re: Interior woes (JRL)

thanks again, and thank god for SS, resources resources.
the car is mint other than that plus it is an 04 with 13k miles on it that i got a really good deal on. Of course i did a carfax and service report on it before even calling the owner, but i assume it was someone's dumb mistake leaving the sunroof and/or window open during rain. I also noticed that it doesnt take much to "burn" or discolor the leather with water contact... I can live with it, but it is pretty noticeable
