someone did the footwells a while back and posted on here, IIRC you have to break the ones that are currently in there and scrape them out before putting the new ones in.

It's totally possible replaced mine with red LEDs...
you'll have to get comfortable and get in there somehow (probably on your back)...
you can pull out the whole housing with the cable, then unplug the cable, replace the w5w bulb with an LED (don't panic if the LED won't work the first time - just turn it around 180 degrees) and reconnect the cable.
the last step would be getting the housing back into the footwell, which can be a little tricky, but still is possible.
changing those 2 bulbs took me about one hour so enjoy...hehe

Re: (USAF 2010 T5)

thanks. thats the one i was reading. however it doesnt say anything about the overhead console. the bulbs are in these little blue housings. you twist those off the console but then you cant get the bulb out.

Blue console?
Overhead console light housing should just pop right out with some prying with a small flat head screw driver. The rear ones should pop out with some force, without any tools. Rear light bulbs can just be pulled straight out, front ones are festoon kind, just push one side away.

Re: interior lighting now (gonefly)

Gonefly,
You didn't mention the year of your car but I recently replace a bulb in my front overhead console. My S40 is a 2007 and the front console bulbs are part of the plastic part you twist to remove the bulb. I had purchased w5w bulbs and of course they did not just plug in. I had to remove the old bulb by, carefully, wigging the bulb until the wires broke. The w5w bulb will plug in but you have to turn the wires on the new bulb out from the sides so the wires will bend and make contact on the two side plates. I have had my in for several months and the are working just fine. The rear console bulbs are w5w they pull out and plug in very easy. To remove the console, just pull down on the console and it will just pull out. I have been during some researching and http://www.autolumination.com has some twist replacements with removable wedge style bulbs. I have been looking at those and replacing the bulbs with leds but you need to get around the twist connector, hence looking at the replacements twist connectors.
If you need pictures, let me know and I'll take some tomorrow.
Hope this helps

Re: interior lighting now (Delhibeli)

just the problem i have. mine is a 2008. i did notice that most people here have the festoon bulbs on the overhead console. guess from 2007 up the must have changed. it would be alot simpler if the LED just came with the twist connector.

i did led's in my rear license plate spots. the drivers side bulb lights up, but the passenger side one doesnt. So i swapped the passenger side one for the stock one .. and it lights up! I tried switching bulbs and they both work. Any clues?
Also, where are you guys getting your led's from?
