I was thinking about putting a larger aftermarket intercooler in... I was looking around the search results but I didn't really find any information I was looking for... Does anyone know a particular brand or type of intercooler that works best with the R... I love the look of the intercooler on that R on the Takspeed site and that's what I'd be looking to do...
Any tips, help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in Advance ,
Mike

that one is a yonaka intercooler. they can be had for 200 bucks. There are also intercoolers such as spearco that can be had for 1800 dollars. And there are some in between.

better to find a local place that is compitent enoug for the procedure and talk to them. Best we can do here is unrealistic benchraces.
SS is a great resource for ideas but should not be used for more than that. Talk to whoever would be doing the work and share these links with them to colabirate on.

Thanks so much everyone... gotta love the timely responses on Sweedespeed
Does anyone know if a new intercooler voids warranty at all? Also, should I have it professionally installed?

Re: (titaniumR)

it will only void warranty if found to be the culprit of related damage. so make sure theres no loose pieces that are going to break off and fly into the engine and you will be fine.

Haha... well I have a couple buddies of mine who own a car modification business (mostly Nissan's) but they know their way around cars, so most stuff that requires moderate work they can do themselves... gdogg what size intercooler would you recommend since size is most important?

Re: (titaniumR)

look for something with a high cfm 600+...a low static pressure drop (1psi or less), and a good cooling capability.
the links mentioned above are more than enough to get you started

allow me to throw in the engineering angle to the added turbo lag theory
if you were to take the stock volvo IC core, which is roughly 160 cu. in. (INTERNAL VOLUME) and replace it with the one SMS intercooler which is roughly 260 cu. in. (INTERNAL VOLUME), that would be like adding 2.5 feet of charge pipe to your existing system. Imagine adding a MONSTER intercooler
you get the idea...

Best thing to do IMO is to match up the HP ratings and get the least PSI drop. Also make sure it is a bar and plate design. This will be the simplest way to compare them only with online specs.

I thought that the main parameter one should be concerned with is the efficiency of the IC. A large but yet inefficient IC will cause more problems than a smaller one that is more efficient. "Size isn't everything, it's how you use it"
