Hello-

New member here...first post.

Have a '05 R picked up on Overseas Delivery Program...42,500 mileage Have enjoyed the car (and its many quirks) that all of you regularly discuss, as I have been lurking on this site since I bought the car.

New problem developed about 3 weeks ago...intercooler finish (as viewed through the front grille) has peeled off. Have taken to the dealer in Edison, NJ...they said they had never seen before. They discussed with Volvo and the decision was not to do anything- cosmetic issue, not affecting performance. When I questioned decision, Service Manager noted that underside of front bumper had some scrapes (don't see on hthis affects the intercoller fins above it). I'm still not satisfied. Amy of you have this intercooler finish experience...have not seen it under the "search" function.

Any adivce or counsel from the forum would be appreciated, as the end result is a cheesy looking intercooler appearance on a $40K+ car.

Mine is peeling and all as well... It's perfectly safe to touch it up with black spray paint if you wish. I'm replacing the intercooler on mine with an upgraded model this summer so I don't really mind so much.

Yarr, mine is peeling/chipping too. I plan on replacing come summer time.

Some of my black paint was peeling as well...I just resprayed it with flat black paint looks good as new. Probably will have to respray after the winter and I wash the car.

I just sanded mine off totally and repainted it in high temp silver. Looks good and no more chips/peeling!

They all peel like a 2nd degree sunburn.

Get under there with a puddy knife and some steel wool and scrap it all off. I just repainted mine with a can of $5 barbeque paint from Wallyworld. Looks better than new.

I just used the volvo touch up paint. i dont know why you would really go through all that hassle.

Thank you all for your replies...the re-direct to past threads, reassurances, the kick in the backside to paint it myself...it is all very much appreciated.

Will continue to parrticipate...when I have something useful to add or a question to ask.

BTW, AthruC, how much cas are you acatually throwing in?

I was thinking about the wording of that long and hard before I posted - and I'm pretty sure I worded it correctly

You should make it to some of our upcoming GTG's when the weather turns. We've got a nice Tri-State bunch!

It's not a permenant fixbut I have used Testors flatblack model paint and I have also used a black permenant marker to tough up small impacts...

Mine started peeling a couple of years ago.
My simple solution was to remove the rest of the coating on the intercooler and horizontal bars. It's bare aluminum which looks better IMO.
