I'm about to install my new Volvo rear bumper shield--the stainless steel piece that protects the top of the bumper from scuffs while loading the trunk.

Does anybody know if there is some minimum temperature above which I should do this? The shield simply sticks to the bumper with double-sided sticky tape that is already stuck to the shield. Temps here in the Hudson River Valley are currently about 50 F during the day.

Google search for minimum application temp for max adhesion of double stick foam and tape (just did this for another project) indicates 60-65 F.

Very important to make sure surface is clean too, as you probably know.

Is there a template or guide for positioning it or do you just eye-ball it?

When I asked a question that I wanted the group to answer, your response was:
"I think this all comes under the heading of GetALife."

I return the favor.

No, but it's really not crucial, as long as you center it laterally. The top surface of the bumper is substantially larger than the steel strip, so longitudinal alignment is pretty much a matter of what looks good, and effective.
