I installed my hu today and must say that it was a bit of a pita. The Volvo double din unit which I got from BVV must be modified to accept your hu, and you need a trim ring for it (Not Included). I had to make one. Also, the new dash piece did not have the support brackets that the a/c controls attach to. I took care of that with some 3m doublesided molding tape. I still have a couple of adjustments to make on fitment and I would like to paint the dash piece to match the factory interior trim in the R as it did not match. Its a lighter grayish black. But, overall, its OK for just a little while tinkering on it after work. And the harness parts from Crutchfield are spot-on! Excellent stuff there.

Looks great. I especially like that headunit, outstanding choice.
My only question is how this integrated with the factory amplifier/speakers and if the center speaker still works?
Is the sound better, worse, or the same as before? If you could be specific, that would be great i.e. better bass response, louder, possibly harsh sounding treble? Thanks.

Re: (Jexx)

My car did not have the premium sound option, so there was no center channel and no factory amp in my car.
With the sub in the rear now and almost limitless control over all the speakers from the head unit, I am very happy with it.
I do have to adjust levels between different types of music, but even with the factory speakers, it sounds worlds better than it did stock.
I can make it so retarded loud that the car sounds like its going to explode apart if I want(which I dont) but the option is there.
The only thing I would change is my sub, its just too big... Maybe one day I will do a cleaner install possibly to the trunk sides, but I had that sub in a bigger box left over from my GTI and I just decided I would build a box for the R and use it because I had it.

Then again, it's likely that is only with the newer models of the R.

Installation looks great! I also have an avicd3...siting in my basement and it needs an install stat! lol, I have done hours of researching but cannot find anyone to give me a solid response as to what things I need to install and keep my steering controls. So far I believe I need...
1 - Double Din Bezel (myswedishparts.com)
2 - Volvo antenna adapter (ebay)
3 - Wiring harnass (ebay)
4 - Deitz CANBUS items (have to order specially)
Could you please let me know what items you used for your installation bradshrader of your Pioneer AVIC D3? How did you keep the steering controls...Also I have the premium sound headunit for my 2005 S60R, will this cause any issues do you think? Finally, is there any products in the US that could retain my steering controls, or must I go international? Sorry for all the questions, I did do lots of research, just lots of conflicting posts on items needed since other are using different brand headunits. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Re: (Sleep_R)

Your list looks just fine.
The steering wheel controls communicate with the HU via the CANBUS, you will need some kind of adapter to convert the digital signals to analog for the new HU. Dietz is the only one we know of that is available.
Several people have obtained them from Perzan Auto Sound in the Philly area. Be advised, they are not cheap.
I believe that there are adapters for some late model European Fords (and maybe other makes) which will work for a lot less, it would be nice if one of our fellow swedespeeders from across the pond could look into this.
