Re: Installed an E90 shift Knob. (xenophobic)

Is that shift knob from an automatic? It looks like the shift lock button is on the front. Other than that, it fits nicely, but loses some of the "spaceball" look.

I think that's the ideal location for the 4C buttons. In that location you can make changes with a high degree of accuracy while under spirited driving conditions, and it's also a location that would prevent accidental changes.
Anyways, nice work.

I am not sure of the shifter knob, but I am impressed with the suspension button!!! Well done. I also like the orange inlay on the shifter pattern.

Nice job! Can you give details on how you setup the button to the mode buttons?

Can you give details on how you setup the button to the mode buttons?

I took out the original knob, and bought an E90 automatic transmission knob.On the BMW there is a leather part under the knob so I produced a rubber cap for the bottom of the knob to prevent ugly look of the edges.
I dissassambled the aluminium part and the button from the knob.
The knob already fit it's place tight but to make it more strong,I drilled a hole through the BMW knob and my gear stick.
From this hole I inserted a metal pin to stabilize the knob.
After this the knob fitted very very strong.
For the button,I made a connection from the active chassis circuit to the gear stick.I made an electric circuit to delay the time when I hit the button. This prevents to make changes when accidentaly press the button.e.g.when you hit from 3 to 4 gear.
When I hold the button 3 seconds it changes to Sport, again 3 seconds to Advanced.I can make longer time up to 10 seconds.

"Check out the big brain on Brad!"
What did you use for the red inlay on the shift pattern?
BTW, I can't believe you have the technological ability to complete this mod, but you don't have access to a decent digital camera. Come on, bro. Get us some high resolution pics!!!

Re: Installed an E90 shift Knob. (xenophobic)

xenophobic,
Just curious - did you replace the black surround under the aluminum ring with one from a T-5 (to get rid of the aweful eyesore that is the shift map) or did you paint yours? How hard is it to get that piece off to replace it?
Funny, I was just thinking about how annoying and potentially dangerous it is to reach out to press the buttons when entering into a corner at speed. C'mon Volvo - safety first!!!
- Tryg
