Re: Install guide for steering wheel controls with aftermaket stereo (GuelphVolvo)

The Alpine specific wire (61407) cost 6.90
The Canbus wireharness cost 27.59
The Canbus Generation 3 reader cost 131.74 - this allows you to read reverse gear, headlight on/off switch, speed, etc - I got gen3 so I can activate my reverse camera automatically. The Generation 1 and 2 are cheaper if just looking for volume control functions.

Congrats on your install. It should be noted that unless your after-market head unit has the remote input, it's very difficult if not impossible to get the steering wheel controls to work. I have all of the same parts (have had them for 6 months now) and cannot get them to work with my Kenwood because the model I have does not have the remote input on the back. No one knows how to make it work without that connection. Would love to hear from anyone out there who has been successfull with this and who does not have the remote input.
Cheers!
R

RobS60R,
Why not just sell your head unit on ebay and get one with remote input capability instead? I sold my previous Alpine head unit and expansion box on ebay - it almost completely paid for the new unit (minus about $150).

SS60 where did you get the harness for the factory HU and what about the antenna hook up. I plan on getting the new Alpine IVA-W200 double din and I'd like to get all parts first.

Re: (ilalocal1922)

I ordered the parts from caraudio24 in Germany. There were about 20 different online retailers selling Dietz parts in February when I ordered.
The manufacture site is: dietz.biz (click on Englisch if you preffer) Then go to the canbus section.
Just copy their part numbers and do a google search for them.
Correct part numbers for an S60or V70 are
61301 Canbus (gen3), and 61336 Wireharness
the connector for headunit connection is specific to each brand (Alpine was 61407)
If you don't speak/read German, just use the google translator to browse the search page results in English.
http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en
Check out serveral different sites, the prices vary widely from retailer to retailer; as does the shipping cost.
As for your other question: The antenna hookup goes directly to the head unit.

Re: (GuelphVolvo)

No G-Net does not sell Dietz products that I am aware of. They DO sell a nice CCD reverse camera though.
Parts can be bought direct from Germany online with very little fuss. Especially if you speak German.
For my current setup I did my own install. In fact I just did some rewiring today and moved the I/O box to the trunk so I can hook the reverse camera in more easily.
I did have existing amps and xm radio in the trunk from my previous head unit though, these were installed by belrose audio (belrosecaraudio.com)
My original system, now long gone, was installed by Kromer Radio (kromerradio.com)

Hey,
Where abouts on their site did you purchase it? The person I emailed there told me that I could buy it from Perzan Auto Radio Upper Darby, PA. Is this who you ended up getting the parts from?
Thanks. I can't wait to flick through my iPod without aiming my finger at that screen aimlessly in traffic.

Bought mine from http://caraudio24.de
Took 5 weeks to arrive due to a backorder on the blue alpine cable.
I came accross that guy in PA once before. Seems to have a solid reputation.
I bought direct from Germany because it was less expensive and tax free.

Re: (ilalocal1922)

FYI - At the curent exchange rate 160 Kroner is only 25.26 US Dollars
From caraudio24.de - shipping cost me 37 Euro
If you do a google search for " Dietz 61301 " you'll find many places with various prices and shipping rates.
http://www.preisroboter.de/ergebnis214071.html looks pretty reasonable too.

Re: Install guide for steering wheel controls with aftermaket stereo (ss60)

Hi all,
I've installed a Pioneer HD1BT nav unit (Z1 in the states) into my 2005 V70.
I didn't want to lose the steering wheel controls, so purchsed the Dietz CAN bus adaptor with the Pioneer connector.
Everything works except the steering control. Dietz said it was maybe a faulty unit, so they shipped me another. Same problem.
Any ideas????? Do I have to do anything to the car (software issue?) to make the controls work? Do I have to do anything to the head unit????
Please help!!!!

Re: Install guide for steering wheel controls with aftermaket stereo (partrir)

So the remote control cable (the blue 61408 cable) is connected to the Pioneer remote jack and you can't adjust volume or use track search/FFWD ?
Which generation bus unit do you have - 61301? or 61036? The 61408 only works with gen 3.
