“With the all-new Volvo V70, we want to mark our position in the premium segment even more clearly than before,” says Tomas Ahlborg, Project Director for the all-new V70. “We have seen that estate cars in the upper segment follow the same trend as sedans, that is to say a shift towards more specialised products. We have therefore focused firmly on giving the all-new Volvo V70 just about all the best features. Design, naturally, but we’ve also given top priority to areas such as driving pleasure, flexible function and high comfort – of course alongside safety, both preventive and protective. We know that all these properties are important to Volvo’s customers, who in many cases are highly aware and active families.”
Full Story

I didn't see a 0-60 on the T6 version (manual) of this bad boy. Any ideas? Love the pinch protection moulding on the auto tailgate . 12 speakers and a sub? Very cool. And ventilated seats!!!! Will there be an R version?
-Brand

I SERIOUSLY doubt that there will be a manual version.

There had better be a manual version! I don't get what's wrong with people these days. I'll only drive a manual.

I agree. Which also makes it harder to sell them, like my V70 T5 MT. What the heck is wrong with people! Shifting is the best part. Clutches will never go away completely, there is a market for them but they'll get harder and harder to find in the cars we love.
-Bran

I-love-this-car! Reading about the features, I was amazed. By the looks of the picture in the writeup about the active xenons at night, it looks like the upper part of the tail lights have LEDs in them. I can't wait to see this car in person.

After reading about this new Volvo creation, I assume it will carry one heck of a price tag and will target the MB, Audi and BMW customers. The Saab, Subaru and Maza 6 wagon buyers will continue to have a significant price advantage over Volvo. When will this 2008 model be introduced to the USA. I'm assuming the leftover 2007 models will carry a significant price difference when compared to the 2008 models. Sure could tank the resale values of 2006 Volvos.

I doubt that there will be many leftover 07's.
Volvo has cut back wagon production.
As for Subaru and Mazda, even the Opel/Saabs they cost less and they should.
The V70 occupies a unique niche.
People who want one rarely shop anythin else seriously.
Most of the time, the German wagons are WAYYYY above their comfort level and the japanese ones simply aren't nice enough, to say nothing of safety.

I do not expect any significant price hike.
Now, Max is right saying that V/XC70 is a class on its own. I have been looking into "sensitive alternative" to it for a family member, and finally accepted the fact that there is no, basically, any reasonable alternative to the OSD priced XC70 in this upscale AWD segment. Anything else is either way more expensive, way too small, or both.

Re: In Detail: The All-New Volvo V70 (JRL)

Perhaps it's an age thing and I will come around in a decade or two, but I prefer the 6MT S60R to our auto SUV in heavy Seattle traffic (and it is REALLY bad traffic around here - even when driving to places like Yelm). I find it tiring to constantly depress the brake pedal just to keep the car from rolling forward. Our Pilot requires a pretty heavy foot to keep it sitting still. It's just as annoying as shifting if you ask me.
- Tryg
Ramtha, NO. But manual trans, YES . I am enlightened but by the rush I get from shifting from a 6,000 rmp 2nd to 3rd with my baby around that sweet corner by Ramtha's fortress . We should put out a poll (if there hasn't already been one) on automatic vs. manual. Re: In Detail: The All-New Volvo V70 (JRL)

Yeah well, a few people on here might say I'm a bit unusual. Volvo's a car company that takes real people that care about the cars. Just as long as they keep making the V70 in a manual trans. If they don't?
-B
